There weren’t big ratings for ABC Family’s Huge series so the cable channel has cancelled it after just 10 episodes.
Huge follows a group of seven teenagers who are sent to weight-loss camp with diverse results. The cast includes Nikki Blonsky, Hayley Hasselhoff, Raven Goodwin, Ari Stidham, Ashley Holliday, Harvey Guillen, Stefan Van Ray, Jacob Wysocki, Molly Tarlov, Gina Torres, Zander Eckhouse, Zoe Jarman, and Paul Dooley.
The show debuted to a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic last June with 2.53 million viewers. ABC Family bragged that it was their biggest series launch to date among women 18-49 and second largest in adults 18-49 and women 18-34.

Unfortunately, the numbers started to fall in week two and slowly kept dropping off. By week eight, Huge hit a series low with a 0.5 rating in the demo and 1.34 million viewers. That represents an audience loss of about 45% since the debut. The last episode of the season attracted just a 0.6 rating and 1.45 million total viewers.
Now, according to Deadline, ABC Family has decided to cancel Huge. Unfortunately for the show’s loyal viewers, there won’t be a second season or a true series finale. The last episode aired on August 30th.
The decision to cancel Huge doesn’t really come as a surprise, especially if you look at the great success that ABC Family has been having with other new shows like Pretty Little Liars and Melissa & Joey.

I’m very sad that ABC Family didn’t recognize the value in “Huge” beyond ratings and money raised from advertisers. As a former heavyweight tween who lost weight in her teens but regained it (and more) in her late 30s, I found this show refreshing, candid, and beneficial to all young women and men who struggle with their body images, self-esteem, and have to contend a culture that places such immense importance on outer beauty.
I am so upset because this show waz inspiring and i had been waiting for it to come back on so i checked it out i really fell in luv with this show i also luv abc family so i am very sorry that they cancelled it and at least if there not gonna bring it back they can make a finale>:(

I am so MAD just found out that my fav show Huge was cancelled. I have been waiting and waiting for it to come back on. I love this show. I wish there was a way to get the show back on the air. I think they needed to be on a different night and time slot maybe. It was a good show that dealt with a huge concern in america obesity and how the teenaagers are handling it. It needs to be put back on

Might be that ‘Huge was aired at a bad time. I know I had to tape it to watch it. So sad they couldn’t give it one more season to wrap things up. This was a great program for teens w/ low self esteem. It showed them how to cope so much better then some that are still on. I’m far from being a teen and enjoyed it, sometimes it takes a second season for some shows to catch on. I wish the powers that be thought of quality instead of guantity as usual. They only see $$$. 🙁
I’m probably a little older than some, but I REALLY enjoyed watching “Huge”. I am a tad shocked that it received low ratings as I thought our society was moving away from the stereotype that all of our youngsters should be so thin. The youngsters on the show are typically bratty, but do they have to be impudent towards adults and cliquish to fit into the “90210” category? This cancellation if purely ridiculous. And this is exactly why I dont listen to the shows boasting about “ratings” (during the episodes they kept saying how it was rockin’ in the ratings). This particular show actually has serious significance to youth around the USA and needs more awareness rather than say, sensationalizing teen pregnancy of which there are tooooo many shows. I believe ABC Family missed an opportunity to teach youngsters about discrimination, insecurities, differences and indistinguishable characteristics. As you stated, some youngsters who are “different” might feel alone and often can lead to attempt suicide.
I was SO sad when I learned Huge was cancelled. I think many people didn’t watch it because it did not have the typical “beautiful” cast. However, for many people it was great to see a different kind of people with different problems have a show. It was such a bold move on ABC Family’s part, and they are just giving in to the stereotypes of the world by cancelling it. I am soooooo MAD!!!!! Seems everytime a good show comes on they cancel it and keep the stupid ones! The very least they could of give it a final ending episode I been waiting months to see what happens next! Its possible the air time at night they put it on wasn’t the best. It aired right after pretty little liars and some people work the next day etc. its hard to watch ABC for 12 hours when you have to work. I am very dissapointed they did this and wish I could protest it!

I was very disappointed to find out Huge was canceled. I actually only found out about the show when the pilot was offered for free on iTunes. I’ve watched the rest of the season, and I wish they could have made it to the finale at least. If ABC were to bring it back I would make sure to watch every episode and get my friends to watch too, to keep it on. It’s a shame that some people wouldn’t watch the show simply because the actors and actresses aren’t stick thin.
