While today’s NBC infront presentation brought good news for fans of struggling shows like Heroes and Parks and Recreation. Those who enjoy Life weren’t so lucky.
Life revolves around detective Charlie Crews (Damian Lewis), a man who served a dozen years for murders that he didn’t commit. He lost all that was dear to him but survives thanks to his studies of Zen philosophy. He eventually rejoins the LAPD but is a very different man. Others in the cast include Sarah Shahi, Adam Arkin, Brent Sexton, Donal Logue, Brooke Langton, Robin Weigert, Jennifer Siebel, Victor Rivers, and Jessy Schram.
The NBC drama debuted in September 2007 to 10.15 million viewers and a 4.1/11 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. Later episodes sank to a low of 5.72 million and a 2/6. If not for the writers strike, NBC would have cancelled Life after one year. The execs instead decided to give it another try and renewed the series for a second season.
Unfortunately, the next round of episodes didn’t perform any better than the first. NBC needs fewer shows next season because of their Jay Leno experiment but, even if they didn’t, Life wouldn’t be coming back with such poor ratings.
NBC’s co-chair, Ben Silverman, made it official today and confirmed that Life won’t be coming back next season. Thankfully, the last episode of the series gave viewers some closure and answers to ongoing questions. These days, that’s a luxury that few other shows are given.

I really liked the Zen element. Please, please, please bring back LIFE!!
Life was so funny, yet serious! Damian Lewis was awesome and I loved the interaction between him and Sarah Shahi…… if taken to another network I would definitely watch! Boo on NBC!!!!!
Please, please, pretty please, bring back LIFE. I can’t live without it!!!!!
My wife and I are great fans of Damian Crews in “Life”. The dialogue is engaging and funny and the characters in the series have so much to teach us about life in general. The end of the 2nd season has left so many questions unanswered…please, please bring “Life” back.
This was one of my favorite series and I am very disappointed that it was cancelled. I hope NBC or another network will see the error of this decision. I found the show innovative and engaging and looked forward ot each installment.
Bring back LIFE. One of very few quality shows on TV that is original and doesn’t involve some stupid reality TV twist.
My daughter and I have been thrilled with the episodes of Life we have been watching in Europe, and are extremely disgusted that there are to be no more episodes, it was the best series we have watched in a very long time. Please reconsider your lousy decision to cancel the series! Bring Damian back as Crews!
Just viewed the two seasons of LIFE and was blown away. Humor…mystery….drama – it had it all. Please bring it back!
Just got the DVDs and viewed Life for the first time.
Great show with fabuluos actors and plots.
Bring it back!
Please bring back ” Life”!!!!!!
Cancel that rediculous show Boston Legal & bring back “Life”.Please!!!
Of course I guess the only ones that read these remarks are the people that write them. I am sure NBC will pay no attention to what we write & I am sure they could care less. I will write them anyway!!!I am really pissed off about the cancellation of “Life”. I will keep on writting comments until they bring it back or @ least will show the reruns. I can’t believe they just totally trashed it all. Redficulous decission NBC.
Like the AOKohl has written, maybe one of the other channels will see what viewer’s have lost & star airing it. What a lost for NBC, Lynette Peel.
I can not belive they have cancelled “Life”.Why don’t they remove some of those stupid comedies that they think are so funny.I have waited all this time expecting to watch Damien Lewis. The show is differant, funny, & still manages to be quiet serious at times. Well, you could at least play his reruns like they do all of the other shows. Like on some of the sister channels.Boy,I am really pissed off. That was my favorite show. I even gave up watching American Idol to watch “Life”. Shame on those responsible for this unforgivable act. You have lost this viewer.
My husband and I loved this show. Completely stupid shows like Castle make the cut??
I really liked the characters and the way the show was evolving. Funny, thoughtful, kept you thinking.
I am really bummed that Life is canceled. I agree the writing and acting was great. Some of the shows on now, really!
