We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

How can you possibly gain a following for a show if you cancel it after two episodes? That is what is wrong with TV show producers these days. They never give new shows a chance to gain an audience. When Dallas first aired, it did not have good ratings but look what a sensation it became! I am SO sick of reality shows and was really enjoying Lone Star. This just plain stinks. Why bother watching new shows if they are just going to get cancelled immediately?
I don’t know how a network can cancel a show after only two episodes! Many long-running shows would never have made it past the first season, but the networks gave them a chance and ended up with a huge hit. Anyway, though I don’t think this would have been one of those years-running shows, I would at least have liked to see how the season played out. After seeing him in a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie about Turret’s Syndrome, I fell for James Wolk, and was really excited to see he was in a weekly show. I watched it… Read more »
LOVED IT-AM FROM TEX-LIVE NYC=HAD FAMILY OIL BACKGROUND-SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CANCELLED–WAS A 21 ST CENTURY “DALLAS”
Please bring Lone Star back! At last a show with a real story, real suspense! Perhaps that was the problem. To enjoy this show, a viewer need to invest a whole hour. How much easier it is for some to switch channels at commercials and watch a two minute dance or a series of downs. This show should be shown at 10 PM or at a choice of times on cable.
So sad the show was canceled. I wanted to watch it tonight 🙁 It was the best new show on TV. I hope another network picks it up! I just can’t believe it was cancelled.
This sucks! Finally a show about something other than overly styled crime investigators or talentless Americans performing their futile aspirations!!! A life like crook and a fresh storyline would have been a welcome change!
I just think it was stupid that they didn’t air the episodes that they already paid money to produce. If anything maybe the ratings would have increased if the rest of the episodes were promising.
i was sooo looking forward to watching it tonight!!!! i’m very sad and surprised to see that it’s been canceled 🙁 it was actually the only show i was intrigued by this season! bring it back fox!!!!!!
This is so sad and such a bad decision! Lone Star was a great show and fox didn’t give it a chance… Air it at a different time slot and it will def more ratings… Please bring it back Fox!!
Lone Star was such a good show! It wasn’t canceled because of the quality of the show; it was canceled because it was up against Dancing With the Stars and The Event. Fox should not have given it such a bad time spot.
Loved this show, it was original and well written. Give it a chance!!
Easy…its about a bigamist. No selling that in America. If he hadn’t married his GF in episode 1 it might have been tolerable, but when he decided to take on wife #2 it was an insurmountable obstacle.
I loved it! I am very disappointed to see it go! Was fun to see what he would do next! So very sad! Anne
I agree! I LOVED Lone Star, and I am really sad to see it gone so quickly. Yes, I do feel as though this was the wrong time slot of this show, when it was up against Dancing with the Stars, Housewives, and The Event. I hope FOX rethinks this and allows it to air at a different time. I think they may get more viewers.
I am sooo upset by this news! Looked forward to this show all day and was confused when Lie to Me came on. BAD choice. This show was excellent so far!
