We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

Of all of the crappy shows that stay on year after year and the network pulls Lone Star after only 2 episodes?? Geez…give it a chance. The first 2 episodes were pretty good. I DVRd those episodes and just got around to watching them. How can ratings even be taken seriously when people DVR and Tivo shows?
I enjoyed the show immensely. Writing was good with interesting story line.
I think Fox paniced and bailed on a good show way too soon.
David Keith was a good cast, but the lead ‘son’ was too young, too green looking, & too ‘generic up north’ for a Texas character. Still, how does any network justify cancellation of anything after two episodes. I liked the 2nd week’s episode better than the first — the story was building.
I agree, it was a really good show they should have switched nights. It was up against dancing with the Stars which probably took away some of its viewers. But wow to cancel after two shows…geez give it another chance. Re-release it in January or run it in the summer when there are no other shows on. The story line was a good one give it a chance!
Maybe we can resurrect it like Chuck was?
I loved the show from the first episode. I want it back on tv. I like that actor that plays the main character. He was on a series I watched awhile back I think,. I wish they would put the show on. Right now there are so many new shows it may have just got lost in the shuffle.
I am terribly disappointed that you canceled, “Lone Star”. What were you thinking of ? You have a great series. We search every night and can find nothing to watch. Finally, you give us something and then you in you unestimable wisdom decide to cancel. What gives?
Please reconsider!
Doomed from the beginning
I’m upset. This was one of the few new shows I actually was intrigued by this season. Why not switch it to another night?
I just found out that “Lone Star” has been canceled. How upsetting. I really loved the show and can’t believe Fox would just can a show after 2 episodes.
It’s the same as last season’s “Eastwick”, a show I loved that got canceled. I guess it’s true…the good DO die young.
WHY when we just get interested in a new show, it gets cancelled. This show just needed time to catch on. It was opposite Dancing with the Stars which is a tough market to crack. Please rethink this decision and release the remaining shows in a different time slot and give it a chance.
I am so disappointed this show has been canceled, it had a really good story line & I enjoyed it very much. I would actually look forward to having something to Watch on Mondays finally. There wasn’t enough time for the show to build a fan base. If they would have given it a little time people would have caught on.
I can’t believe it’s cancelled!! I would sure like to see the other 4 episodes. If FOX doesn’t want to air the episodes why not sell them as a box set so everyone that liked the show can see the last 4 episodes.
Wow! It was just getting exciting and I loved the concept. OH well, thats 2 hours I will never get back again., thank you very much…..I don’t know if it was the time slot but I do not believe it was the show itself. There was nothing wrong with the characters, the writing, the story-line, the actors, or the quality of the show. It had it all in my opinion so I don’t know.
I hope they change their minds…I will watch the entire season if it returns…
OMG! We loved it….Why on earth did it get cancelled already? I even got my husband who never watches anything to watch it and he liked it….That just pisses me off….
Why dont they at least show the remaining shows. This was a good show just needed some time.
