We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

It was an awesome show. Any word if we can make it come back? Since LOST is off the air, I don’t watch anything on the local channels. But this show really got me going. I was really into it, hoping for a LOST replacement and then BAM! it gets canceled. They did this with The Nine, another show that should have made it. All we have to choose from is stupid reality TV or politics. I watch the news all the time but I was really looking forward to having some escape. Realty TV is crap. This was actually… Read more »
I enjoyed the first two episodes. I just watched both episodes off my DTV recording. I hope they air the episodes they have in the can, at least on the web. After losing Lost, Prison Break and 24 we need more drams. Fox please get your writers in geer!

I loved it. I think they could try different time or day. I’m very disappointed because it was very completely different from everything else out there
I thought it was in the wrong time slot, friday night would have been better. come on FOX bring it back, james is a hunk. you need to market him more. Then do the show.
I was hooked on the first episode! Why such a great show has being cancelled? I don’t understand. It was a great family show. It never fails! Everytime there is a good show on TV, it is cancelled. I am angry and very upset over this 🙁
I loved the show too. I sure hope they bring it back.
I loved it. Different than anything else on TV. They should have tried it on a Friday nite when nothing else is on and you look forward to a series and not reruns! Shame on them. I think it would have caught on.
I really was surprised the series was cancelled “Lone Star.” I thought it was excellent. I always hate it when a show is cancelled when you are in the middle of something good. They did it with a lot of series; Rome etc…. Also they do it when DVD’s are released like “American Dreams” and you can only purchase the first Season from a retail store; found out from a google search you can purchase from a website. Another one is “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea;” Season 4 Volumbe 1 is the last one from a retail store.… Read more »
it was great. what happened? first new show in long time i actually was interested in….. too bad….
the day after watching the premiere, my friends and i were at school talking about it. i really liked it. just found out it was cancelled when i didnt see anymore episodes being recorded on my dvr. i was kind of bummed, not gunna lie.
also loved it!!! so sad they cancelled it.. definitely would have ended up being a huge hit!
I watched the first episode of “Lone Star” and I loved it. But now it’s cancelled… =(
I actually really liked the show. I had the show set to record so that i could watch it every weekend and i was sad when i realized that it had actually been canceled. I had started telling my family how good the show was and my grandmother and mom were really interested. 🙁 BUMMER!!!!!!
I actually wasn’t really into it, and didn’t realize it was cancelled til today. I thought it lacked something… everytime I watched I felt bored. I think that the story line had the potential to be awesome, but I think that maybe the development of it was too skimmed over or something leaving you going, ya okay, like that is possible. Lacked in believability, pace was slow and the character development wsan’t there either. I don’t miss it, sorry lonestar.
I loved the show and I wish Fox had moved it to another time slot before pulling the plug on it… I have 2 DVR’s and I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, record my favorite shows so that I can watch them when it is convenient for me – which is almost never when the networks says it should be.
Fox… just because we don’t watch your shows when you tell us to, it doesn’t mean that we don’t watch them at all…
MY DAUGHTER JUST ASKED ME LAST NIGHT WHAT HAPPENED TO LONE STAR AND WHEN IT WOULD BE ON AGAIN. I RECORDED IT AND WE WATCHED IT. I WAS WONDERING HOW THIS WOULD TURN OUT. NOW I GUESS WE WILL NEVER KNOW. TOO BAD, WE LIKED IT.
