Tonight, CBS aired the final episode of Medium. After seven seasons and 130 episodes, it was time to say goodbye to Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette), her husband Joe (Jake Weber), their children and friends. The series finale of Medium is called “Me Without You.”
As the episode begins, we see Allison having an evening phone conversation with Joe who’s at the start of a flight home from Hawaii. Later, Allison is awoken by another call from Joe. His flight is arriving early and then it hits turbulence, and crashes into the ocean. The episode flashes forward seven years and we learn that Joe indeed died. Allison is now a lawyer involved in a big drug case. Her boss, the district attorney, is killed by the leader of a drug cartel who’s on trial. Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) is the mayor and Lee Scanlon (David Cubitt) is the chief of detectives.
Allison begins to dream about Joe and realizes that he’s actually been alive in Mexico with amnesia. The drug lord has been using him to transport narcotics across the border. She ultimately decides to throw the case so that she can reunite with her husband. She and daughter Marie drive to Mexico and she is reunited with him, finally.
Unfortunately, it’s a dream. She awakes back in the present and Joe is there, as a ghost. He did die in the crash and he tried to send a message to Allison about how good her life will still be, even without him. Unfortunately, her mind couldn’t accept it and concocted a way for him to still be alive. Joe tells her how much he loves her and that the loss will hurt for a long time but it will get better. Though she pleads for him to stay, he needs to go.
The scene flashes forward to 41 years later. We see a very old Allison, surrounded by photos of her children and grandchildren. She dies peacefully. Allison appears as her younger self and looks at her now dead body. Joe appears to her, just as he had been. He waited, of course. She asks, “Do I get a kiss?” He replies, “From now, until the end of time.” The two embrace and kiss. They are together, forever more.
The episode ends with brief scenes from the show’s seven year history and each castmember silently saying goodbye to the camera and faithful viewers.
What do you think? Was this a satisfying conclusion to Medium? What did you like or dislike about it?

I didn’t want the show to end. Loved it as my favorite Friday Night Show. The last shows leading up to the grand finale left me with so many emotions , but ahh, your ending captured the true essence leaving me with as much closure as was allowed. Much thanks and gratitude for your wonder filled show and wonder filled actors.
This is one episode I wish that I could un-watch. Really tough thing, to commit to a show for so long, be so invested in the characters, and then have them meet with such a horrible tragedy.
I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY CBS WOULD TAKE A SHOW LIKE MEDIUM .I HAVE BEEN WATCH LOOKING FROM DAY ONE. ALL THE NETWORK DOES IS TAKED SOME THAT IS GOOD AND REPLACE IT WITH A DUMB SHOW I PRAY THAT THIS IS NOT HAPPING.THESE NETWORKS NEED OT LISTERN TO WHAT IS SAID .LET IT BE A DREAM . CBS YOU NEED OT HEAR US . CBS IF MEDIUM GOES OFF THE AIR I WILL NOT BE WATCHING ANY THING ON CBS . I’M TIRE OF THE GOOD SHOWS BEENING CANCEL ROSE
You all dont know unless you are a widow.
It was best ending ever !!! I wonder if Allison or the shows writers know what they did
for the widows of the world.
Im sure we all wish this is the way it will be.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Love to all of you
Great show, sorry to see it end..but most good shows do. I wish the best to the actors, thanks for the enjoyment that you have given to my family and myself…I wish the best for you and with any luck I will see you in other shows of this great caliber.
Thanks for the hour that my family got to share with you every week.
Best regards
Casey
I hate it when writers end a story like this, I much prefer we say good-bye and they go on with their lives as we do. It was kinda sad, we’d spent so much time with these people but series finale was without most of them. Oh well..
I was soooooooooo disappointed…..I would have rather known ahead of time that it was the final show. I also did not like that Joe died. I thought the whole time that it was all a dread. What a waste of a show. I would have rather had a show of them just saying goodbye and what they had coming up in the future. It was also my favorite show since the beginning. I was sad all day today with the way the series ended.
I was dumbfounded! We kept watching it, talking about how it was like a show Ghostwhisperer that we no longer watched because it had became as confusing like this episode. Then at the end we figured out the show was over. This had been a decent show. What a horrible ending to it.
What was that? I mean, I got no clue the show was getting to the end. Never heard anything about a finale. I was watching expecting the twist at the end. Well, the joke was on me. 40 yrs later got it! The show will be missed, at least there was some closure. The best to cast and crew. Fantastic job thru the yrs, as you can tell it was like an extended family.
CBS Network Execs.: The following is a outline of your failures, and the reasons why the USA economy is such dire straits (God, I hope that they are paying attention): A. Cost of watching TV 1. Every 2-3 years, buying a new LCD or plasma TV costing $350+, or finding a decent used CRT TV (& pray it doesn’t go out quick). 2. purchasing a digital converter, or buying a subscription of either cable or satellite digital broadcasting. B. Finding something to watch. 1. Viewers find good show (like “Medium”). 2. Network kills good show, because show is ‘too expensive’.… Read more »
I’m heartbroken. I had NO clue it was the last episode and I was totally unprepared and now I’m very upset! One of my favorite shows I look forward to weekly, ( I dont have many I look forward to these days) and they just yanked the rug out on me with no warning! I’m going to miss it terrible!! Thanks to the actors and crew for all their work, it was great!
I have watched Medium since it started and looked forward to this show whenever, wherever it may have been. I loved the fact that it came before and lasted after “The Ghost Whisperer” but I really would have loved it to continue much, much more. Seven years was not enough!
Did not no this was the last show. Glad I recorded it…..have watched it twice more. Cannot believe it was cancelled. Loved, loved, loved the show! Too bad the network is run by idiots.
ive watched medium from the very 1st episode & have thought it 2b one of the most intelligent shows. i loved the ending and i thank the writers, producers, cast & everyone involved w/giving the audience a poignant & beautiful ending to this show. i think it showed gr8 respect to its audience. so many shows have horrible endings, but not so in this case at least imo. this ranked up there w/buffy the vampire slayer finale. whats sad is this show suffered from low ratings & there r so many crappy shows that endure w/high ratings. what does that… Read more »
