Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

all the good shows get canceled – an’t believe it!!
Great show mainly because of Ashley. Where can I view the remaining shows???????
It didn’t succeed because it was up against NBC’s Thursday night lineup. I saw every episode watching 89% on Hulu. I missed first time broadcast of Missing, because I would forget to watch and was watching Community, Office etc. But I really liked the whole missing story line, and wanted to see it continue. It reminded me of many thriller films shot in foreign venues for theatrical release.
I am really disappointed that Missing will not have a second season. Just because the younger group does not like shows like Missing does not mean they should cancel or renew the TV show, us older groups like shows like Missing.
I agree with all the other comments. I think ABC should reconsider and bring back missing. As the season went on, and we got to know the characters the show only got better!! It was refreshing to watch a show that you actually had to pay attention to to understand … not ANOTHER reality show … ENOUGH!! We really loved this … please bring it back!!
Well that is disappointing, how can they cancel a show that great and with a cliffhanger like that at the end? I sure hope another network picks it up and advertise it better because it has to be the advertisement that kept the ratings down.
ABC, we’re begging you to reconsider. It’s the only new show of 2011-12 season that was intelligent and worthy of audience time. Sad. Sad. Sad. Judd’s MISSING deserves renewal and a second round of season one in a better time slot. The show’s ACTING and ACTION were unsurpassed by anything else out there this past year. It all paled! Finally, a well-written, superbly acted show, with exotic locations, requiring cerebral interaction, and ABC dumps it. GCB, a trash heap, I understand. MISSING? No way. I’m SO disappointed in ABC. The horrible time slot, the end-year placement? Could ABC have set… Read more »
This is ********!! I am from Sweden and the last episode just aired over here. I am
Shocked to hear that there will not be a sexond season. This show was great and Ashley Judd is freaking amazing!!!

The horrible time slot, the end-year placement? Could ABC have set it up for greater failure if it tried? This show deserves replayed, another shot, and a decent chance to develop the fuller audience it deserves. CAN ANOTHER NETWORK NOT HELL-BENT ON REALITY SHOWS OR SEX-CRAZED MEANINGLESS COMEDIES PICK IT UP?! ABC, we’re begging you to reconsider. Missing was an incredible show. Bourne Identity “esque” with character depth.
Strongly believe time slot and a spring premiere stacked the odds against this series. The non-fable, non-reality, non-borderline ridiculous premise, television viewer that I am is extremely disappointed.
Should I just stop watching television if the networks continue to cancel shows that haven’t had a real chance to flourish?

I am very disappointed in the canceling go this show. I personally loved it and don’t understand WHY!!! ABC is making a huge mistake and should of er turn their decision.
Very disappointed viewer,
TM
I thought it was a very well made show, great actors, great plot.. Too bad it was canceled I could see some very interesting plots with that spectacular ending… I hope they rethink this and give the show another opportunity.
Hey, I have an idea for another reality show. Watch as a network goes down the tubes (ahem ABC). When you finally get a show that has some intelligence you cancel it. “Missing” had the same stuff as “24” which if I remember got off to a slow start but happen to survive for many years.
Cable stations make for better TV. Networks are dying a slow death.
I cannot believe they are cancelling missing! I will never watch ABC again! I know at least 20 people who never missed an episode just like me! ABC always cancels the good shows and puts all those stupid reality shows! Lets boycott ABC!
