Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

For the. people. that. actually. watched the show and enjoyed the show that was. a crappy. way to end it and leave us hanging wondering what happened to becca windstone…Bring It Back!!!! I DVRed the whole first season just so I can watch the whole thing again…bring it back!!!! The producers got this one sooooo wrong….Bring it back!!!!!
Figures, one of the best shows canceled…….
Sad. Such a good show! Get better and better every week.
To tell you the truth I didn’t expect this show to be any good, but i checked out the 1st show. It was excellent. It’s maintained that level throughout every episode. Great story, cast, etc. ……… Reality tv is eating away at America’s intellect.
Missing was great! Smart, James Bond plus Alias. Best tv show in quite awhile. 2 or 3 generations could watch. In our house, Grandpa, DAD/ Mom and our teen age son , watched. Bring back Missing!
Who and or where do we need to write/petition to get this show back on the air? Can’t believe ABC couldn’t air the show on a different night/time to give it another chance. Very disappointing.
Leaves me only one show on ABC that I might watch next year. Plus I won’t watch any of the new ones because I am tired of getting involved in shows that are pulled with no endings. In fact I will be heading back to the theaters … television has gone down hill the last few years with all its girly guys and real life comedies and it is not worth my time.
Please, Please, Please!!!!!!!!! BRING MISSING BACK!
I am absolutely shocked that missing was cancelled. It was an awesome show that kept you on your feet and left you wanting more. The finale left it open for more to come. Such a great show!!! I hope another network picks it up. It’s a mistake to cancel!
I can’t believe Missing is cancelled…..it was a great show. Hopefully ABC will reconsider.
A close second to 24 !
How unbelievably disappointing!!! I am truly shocked in ABC’s poor judgment to cancel a high caliber show like “Missing.” It was intelligent, entertaining, and with an exotic European setting. Every time I watched the show, I felt like I was going on little travel expeditions solving a mystery. It was a blockbuster movie quality show. It was like watching “The Bourne Identity” an hour at a time, week after week. And if enough people aren’t watching according to the ratings, then it’s because of its awful time slot & the fact that majority of society likes to watch reality TV… Read more »
Work nights so I dvr every show I watch. I am very disappointed in ABC. I think had they advertised this show more and given it a better time slot it would have done great. The story was great and the back drop fabulous. I blame the programming slot and lack of advertising, a lot of my friends and coworkers had never heard of it.
I loved this show, but I did in the beginning wonder how they would keep it going looking for her son every week. The ending this time with her missing should have been done a few weeks ago like when she spent all that time in jail(which was a not so good episode). I think they looked too long for him and should have had them look for her half way during this season. Also the time it came on was bad (8pm)because most people are just winding down(especially those with children) and ready to look at tv around (9pm). I… Read more »
Maybe someone can answer this. I record most shows on DVR. If you record and dont watch. Does the network pick it up as someone watching or is it disregarded and not reflected in the number of viewers. If that is case, explains lower numbers. Hard to go toe to toe with Idol.
I have a feeling that DVRs don’t count in the ratings which sucks because a lot of people work nights and have no choice but to record it. I would dvr it every week and watch it when I got home from work at 3 am as I was unwinding from a long night at work. Absolutely love this show, completely disappointed in ABC
Cancelled…what the ——-, crazy to cancel it,,it’s been the only show on lately that has been any good. Just when it was getting really interesting. I hate that. I for one will miss it. Just when I found a good one to watch, what’s wrong with the producers. They finally had a good one.
after reading comments; I see I am not alone in my opinion; Network making big mistake. Most people watch Idol vote off show. I have a DVR. Evidently a lot of people do not. USA, FX or TBS etc pick this up finally a show with character,
