News recently surfaced that, in light of NBC’s cancellation of My Name Is Earl, TBS was interested in picking up the show for 13 new episodes. The cable channel currently airs the first three seasons and is scheduled to add season four in the Fall.
Unfortunately, all sides weren’t able to come to an agreement so there won’t be a fifth season of the sitcom. The Hollywood Reporter reports that series creator Greg Garcia and producing studio 20th Century Fox TV decided not pursue the deal after looking at the necessary budget cuts. Meanwhile, the LA Times believes that TBS felt they wouldn’t be able to afford the show and cut the discussions short. Either way, the end result’s the same.
Yesterday, actor Ethan Suplee (Randy on Earl) indicated that the deal was still possible. On Twitter, he wrote, “I heard TBS MIGHT stand for TheBestStation.” Earlier today, he changed his tune and wrote, “TBS isn’t TheBestStation for reviving Earl. Good news is I’m now available to play Shia Laboof’s better looking brother in Transformers 3.”
A little while ago, 20th Century Fox TV issued a statement that said, “Greg Garcia’s brilliant My Name Is Earl kept America laughing for the past four seasons and certainly deserved to continue for many more.”
“While we had hoped to find a way to produce additional episodes for TBS, in the final analysis we simply could not make the economics work without seriously undermining the artistic integrity of the series. As none of us, Greg included, want the show to go out on anything but a high note, we regret that we must put to rest any speculation that Earl will continue.”
“We are grateful to everyone at TBS for their enthusiasm for the series and wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew of My Name Is Earl for their incredible work.”
So, the sitcom is apparently over. Unfortunately, the viewers have been left hanging. If you had your choice, how would you like to see the Earl story concluded?

Earl was funny! Silly and stupid but a great way to relax and unwind, chuckle and not think after a hard days work. Not eveything has to be serious! One of the last network shows I watch. NBC and the others are really working hard pushing everyone to cable programing.
comon! they cant cancel this show too! i love this show. They cancel all my favorite shows like Phusig Daisies, Prison Break. This is depressing ^Sight^
This is really sad, and i mean it. i would prefeer a real ending than let me hang loos like this!
Good riddance this show was garbage the moment it aired than again everything you see on NBC’s supposedly “Must See Thursday’s”is basicly garbage. As far as an ending goes seeing Earl and his “merry” band of imbeciles each getting a .45cal bullet from M1911 Colt pistol in the back of the head would be the perfect ending.
we want more Earl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve followed the show since the beginning, and was horribly depressed when i recieved word on the cancellation. Every show deserves and ending, even after being cancelled (Prison Break, Pushing Daisies) If there is no way to give the show a 13 episode season….at least give us a series finale that will satisfy its viewers. The true fans of this show need to see it end…the right way.
They couldve at least gave the show a proper finale and not leave on a cliffhanger
Am devastated that this show has been cancelled, it was the ultimate feel good comedy. bad guy turned good, amazing. typical american networks cancelling great shows in their prime
This show good progressively dumber as time went on. Good Riddance.
No great loss – what a pathetic show.
bum fluff!!!! this isn’t fair we get left on a cliff to hang forever at least tell us who earl jr’s dad is!!!!
bring back earl!!
This is such crap. My husband and I laugh everytime we watch this show. He has watched every episode and buys the season as soon as it comes out. I don’t understand why, when this is clearly a show that has good ratings, you would cancel it and replace it with yet another drama that will be moved to Saturdays and eventually cancelled. Regardless of the economy, if a new show can be produced it would be a LOT cheaper to keep a show on board that has been around and is watched. You need to keep this on the… Read more »
I am so mad!!!! I loved this show, my whole family did and it was truely the funniest show on TV these days. What is wrong with these people that are running our TV schedules? Other than Earl, I only watched three other shows on prime time. Reality shows suck!! And everything else is all the same: some quipy trendy SoCal/New York show made for teens. Blah, blah, blah
Another GREAT tv show canceled. I guess the found some new reality CRAP to put on TV. Another hour I guess I will not be in front of the tv.
NBC is run by morons this was the only show on that crappy chanell worth watching.
I cannot believe that you are pulling My Name is Earl! (and Medium and Scrubs). Truly NBC are morons. Earl was a great, positive show. I don’t watch all the cop dramas or medical dramas: they are so redundant. Earl was creative, positive, charming, funny and cool. Please reconsider and bring it back. Truly it cannot cost that much when you don’t expect a huge profit. After all, profit is NOT everything.
