In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

Although I don’t care much about this particular show, it is annoying that the networks just fail to renew shows without providing any ending. I’m betting “The Event”, for example, will eventually be cancelled without an ending, and the show that ran during the summer that promised “All would be revealed”? Never revealed anything on the last episode – you know the one I mean? Folks whisked away to an unnamed town populated solely by others in the same predicament? Really annoying. I’ve made a vow never to watch anymore of these type.
Have been waiting since September to watch. I finally decided to find out why it was not on. It was one of three shows that I would never miss. I would laugh all the way through. Please someone bring it back!!!!!!!!!
I cannot believe this show has been cancelled. My children and I loved every episode and thought the wacky mix of characters were perfect. Each week we would talk about how we couldn’t decide who was funnier. CBS, you guys are idiots. I guess you’ll put yet another reality show in its place. Shame on you.
A hundred channels to chose from, JLD and Old Adventures of New Christine is one of the few shows I actually looked forward to watching…loved this show, please bring it back.
really????????? are u kidding that u would cancel this show??????? so not a good move. this show was hysterical!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really cant believe cbs would drop the show. and abc u not picking up the show….is ur loss. !!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately I didn’t start watching this show until it was cancelled!! I discovered my love for this show in reruns. Clever writing and fantastic characters. I laugh out loud watching this show. It’s disappointing it won’t be picked up for Season 6 and many more. Perhaps once they cancel some of the shows running currently in their line-up they’ll reconsider?? It isn’t often where the entire cast is hilarious! Usually there’s always at least one dud of a character who’s more of a filler…this one really takes the cake in that respect. Each of the characters is more than worthy.
This has to be the wittiest show I’ve seen. JLD’s delivery of some classic lines are priceless. Her facial expressions make me literally LOL and I’m disappointed that it was not picked up by ABC. Hoping that eventually it is revisited, but I won’t hold my breath.
They so need to bring show back Julia is a great talent
NO NO NO STUPID STUPID STUPID WHY DID THEY LET ONE OF THE FUNNIEST SHOWS!
I enjoyed the show. I was looking forward to a new season. Would prefer that to Cougar Town or Modern Family.
this was one of the best shows , i would love to see it picked back up
i can’t believe the sitcom was cancelled. i love this show.
Would definatelty love another season of Christine!! Theres barely any funny sitcoms on anymore
I would LOVE to see this sitcom continued for another season!!!
I really love this show. There aren’t many sitcoms that are as clever or creative. Very few shows I make a point to watch or DVR-but this was one of them and I really miss it. It’s s a shame when the junk that is currently on TV outweighs a qualilty comedy show . . . It should be put back out of principle to balance all the more popular mindless entertainment.
