This may be the one problem that Ray Donovan can’t fix. Showtime has decided to cancel the Ray Donovan TV show, opting not to renew it for an eighth and final season.
Ray Donovan stars Liev Schreiber, Alan Alda, Zach Grenier, Jon Voight, Dash Mihok, Eddie Marsan, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey, and Graham Rogers. The series centers on professional fixer Ray Donovan (Schreiber), who’s working to be the man his family needs him to be. While he makes progress with Dr. Amiot (Alda), there are dangers from the past that require the Ray Donovan of old. Between NYC mayor Ed Feratti (Grenier), an unrelenting NYPD officer hunting for the truth and clients old and new, Ray struggles to find the balance between fixing for clients and fixing himself. And when Feratti’s corruption brings a piece of Mickey’s past (Voight) back to New York, Ray is forced to seek answers to long-buried questions.
The seventh season of Ray Donovan averaged a 0.13 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 932,000 viewers. Compared to season six, that’s down by 21% in the demo and down by 3% in viewership.
During this year’s winter TCA press conference, Showtime boss Gary Levine suggested Ray Donovan could be coming to an end. He said, “I think Ray Donovan is nearing the end of its run. We always talked about seven or eight seasons. Nothing has been decided yet but it’s fair to say it is nearing the end.” Schreiber suggested that fans of Ray Donovan urge Showtime to renew the show for season eight.
“After seven incredible seasons, Ray Donovan has concluded its run on Showtime,” the cable channel said in a statement. “We are proud that the series ended amid such strong viewership and on such a powerful note. Our deepest thanks go to Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, showrunner David Hollander and the entire cast and crew, past and present, for their dedicated work.”
The seventh season finale, which aired on January 19th, left viewers with a cliffhanger for a series finale.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Ray Donovan TV show? Do you think that Showtime should have ordered an eighth season or, at least some sort of wrap up for the series?
Oh come on, Showtime! You can’t leave the fans hanging like this! We need to have a decent conclusion to this great series. There are too many loose ends. Please give it one final season, even if it’s a shortened season, to bring a good conclusion to this crazy family story.
Ray Donovan ranks among the best series I have ever watched. The acting equals the likes of those in “Homeland”, “The Americans” and “The Wire”,all of which I consider the best series ever produced. Too let this series end with so many questions unanswered is shameful. It deserves at least one more season to bring to a conclusion the direction of Ray, his siblings and his children may follow in the years to come.
What a shock! How can they end this excellent series before its natural conclusion?? Outrageous. Bite the bullet and finish what you started, Showtime!
I really want there to be a season 8 of Ray Donovan. There was no ending. I love this show!
Even just a mini series just to close up storyline
Sad day for me.. I looove Ray Donavan great show..true, earlier seasons were better..but it will be missed!!
I cannot understand why Ray Donovan will not be renewed. It is one of the best shows around!!! We keep shows that don’t make you think & Ray Donovan keep you on your toes!! I have watched it since the beginning & it is my favorite show. If you really care about fans you will reconsider canceling it! Please renew Ray Donovan the faithful viewers are pleading with you!!!
U said it all!
They made a mistake ending a 7 season show on a cliffhanger how do you do that?
Very disappointed to hear that there will be no season 8 of Ray Donovan. My wife had never watched the initial previous seasons until I introduced her to the last two seasons. Now she loves it & was looking forward to another season. Very interesting engaging characters, good acting, good chemistry and well written storylines. Why on earth they would want to cancel a solid successful series like Ray Donovan, I’ll never know. This series still has legs & can still run. I hope, on behalf of all the loyal viewers which are numerous, the powers to be, will reconsider… Read more »
We need to see an end….I think we knew it was nearing the end. But to leave it, cancel it now, not a good idea.
I am so disappointed to hear of the cancellation of Ray Donovan. I have followed this series with weekly anticipation from the beginning. I have remained riveted to the Sunday evening show for seven seasons. My Sunday night will not be the same.
Decision to end the series or not…you can still have enough respect for the show and its viewers to wrap up the story and not leave a cliffhanger!
When you have a good series, why terminate it? I’m sure the writers could find ways to continue the series. Do you have something else to replace as good as Ray Donovan, I doubt it?
Day Donovan is an outstanding, well done, well written, well produced show. In the wasteland of television today, it delivered every week with story, content, and viewing ratings. Cancelling this show is a poor business decision. I strongly urge you to reconsider your decision, and to have season right of Ray Donovan.
After its debut, I thought “Ray Donovan” would be one of Showtime’s best original series-es. How could a premium-cable outlet have terminated a veteran series so abruptly? When was the last time HBO cancelled a series without a proper conclusion? At this point, they’re looking like the better premium-cable network. I guess expenses is the main reason why long-running series-es die without a proper send-off. Showtime should have at the very least ordered a two-hour wrap-up movie for “Ray Donovan” if they didn’t want an eighth season. They must not have thought this decision through enough. I am also not… Read more »
