Red Vs. Blue is coming to El Rey. Today, the network announced it would be airing the television premiere of the popular web series this December.
Created in 2003, Red Vs. Blue follows a civil war between two groups of soldiers over a terrible plot of land—a barren box canyon called Blood Gulch. The series parodies first-person shoot video games like Halo. It is the longest-running web series and longest-running sci-fi/comedy series in history, with a run so far of nearly 300 episodes.
This will be the nascent El Rey Network’s first foray into animated content. The channel was begun by director Robert Rodriguez only two years ago as an English language network geared towards Latino viewers.
All 13 seasons of Red Vs. Blue will premiere on El Rey Network beginning December 5th. The 95 half-hour episodes will air weekend mornings from 6 to 10 a.m.
From El Rey Founder Robert Rodriguez, in a press statement:
I’ve been wanting to carve out an animated component to El Rey’s lineup and this was just the perfect fit for the network. Red vs. Blue is cool, quirky, badass and a little off-beat. It’s a truly groundbreaking machinima series, with a strong focus on quality writing and pioneering motion capture techniques. I can’t wait for the El Rey Network audience to check out.”
