Fans of ABC’s summer drama, Scoundrels, may have noticed that the series isn’t on the schedule any longer. Has the show been cancelled?
Scoundrels revolves around the West family, a clan that’s had many run-ins with the law. Dad (David James Elliott) has been sent to prison and his wife (Virginia Madsen) is determined that she and their kids not follow him. The TV show’s cast also includes Leven Rambin, Vanessa Marano, Carlos Bernard, and Patrick Flueger (in a dual role).
The series debuted on June 20th to a disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.23 million viewers. In week two, viewership dropped to a 1.0 in the demo and 3.66 million viewers. The numbers got even worse in subsequent weeks. It hit a demo low 0.6 and, the finale attracted the fewest number of total viewers, just 2.73 million. Those are some terrible numbers for a major network, even for the summer months.
Only eight episodes of Scoundrels were produced and, to ABC’s credit, they aired them all — despite the low ratings. Unfortunately, the network has little reason to want any more. So, no, ABC has not officially cancelled Scoundrels but, it is highly unlikely that they’ll order a second season.
What do you think? Why do you think Scoundrels didn’t fare better? Is it a better show than the ratings reflect?

I loved Scoundrels and The Gates. I had to dvr because they were on when I was working. I want to see both of them come back!!!
i loved scoundrels and the gates. very disappointed when they took it off. hope they bring it back i know im looking forward to the gates returning and hope scoundrels does as well.
Scoundrel is one of the best shows ABC EVER put out there. I would even say it is better then “Desperate Housewives.” Do not cancel it. If you do, big mistake! Are your ratings counting people who watch your shows online? Remember, many people cannot watch live TV anymore! Just a thought! Anyway, I want to see more of Scoundrel
Loved it! Miss it! Hate to see it go!! Reconsider it!!!
PLEASE BRING “SCOUNDRELS” BACK!! IT WAS A GREAT SHOW!
This show was based on New Zealand’s Outrageous Fortune. The writer’s decision to adapt it to a lower rating for an earlier timeslot doesn’t allow the the true nature of the characters to shine through.
I loved the series, so disappointed to hear it may not be back:(
This is a great show.
The characters are intense, the writing is not too cliche or predictable.
I think its’ tragic there might not be another season
WTH!!!! I cannot believe Scoundrel rated lower than those stupid reality shows! I agree with the other lady. I too DVR the show. I loved my Sundays. That show leaves Desperate Housewifes in the dirt. Desperate Housewives is a show that needs to go! Pleeeeeease bring it back. I hope you did not cancle the Gates. Darn it, I want to know what happens next!
I Love The Show!!!! Its absolutley amazing, but i have to admit i might be part of the problem cause i watch it online instead of on TV. I love it to death, they HAVE to keep it
Hello, Please reconsider cancelling the Scoundrels as it and the Gates are awesome shows and maybe coming on in the summer didn’t really have a fair chance as people are busy and maybe don’t watch much tv then. I see you are keeping Pretty little liars but I like Scoundrels as much and the Gates even more so reconsider cancelling the shows and give them a much deserved second chance, thx, Caroline.
i love this show!!!!!! don’t cancel it!!!!
like the cast not the premise did Virginia have to cheat on David? ruined the I’m waiting for u idea. The kids were all over the place . no real commitment from anyone. Too bad!
they should keep scoundrels and the gates playing!! i love both shows and i dont want them to be cancelled..
I think that the latest dvr craze has really effected the ratings. no longer r people watching the shows when the first air but the day after. I know many of the shows that r being canceled including Scoundrels I personally dvr because my schedule doesn’t allow me to watch it at the scheduled times. non the less I love them, especially this one!
