It’s official. Secret Diary of a Call Girl will return for a fourth season on Showtime. That will be the end of the TV show but the story could continue in another form.
Secret Diary of a Call Girl follows Hannah Baxter (Billie Piper), an independent and witty London graduate who secretly works as a high-class escort. Using the name of “Belle,” she’s always loved the single life, claiming she doesn’t need relationships because she gets what she needs from her work. Other actors in the series include Iddo Goldberg, Joanna Bobin, Cherie Lunghi, Callum Blue, James D’Arcy, Ashley Madekwe, Nadia Cameron-Blakey, Ace Bhatti, Toyah Willcox, and Stuart Organ.
The series is produced in the UK and debuted there on ITV2 back in 2007. Showtime considered producing an American version of the series but ultimately decided to purchase and air the UK series instead. The third season finished airing in the US in March of this year.
There was some question about whether the series would continue for a fourth season. A couple months ago, Madekwe said, “We haven’t really spoken about a fourth season yet. I think the producers all really love it and it’s like their baby. They definitely believe in it and the cast enjoy doing it so if it worked out we’d probably all be there.”
Piper, who is also an executive producer on the show, recently said that they were already in the midst of filming the show’s fourth season but that would be the last. According to the Daily Star, she’ll receive £2 million for her work. Showtime has now officially renewed the series so viewers on both sides of the pond will get to see it. They’ve also confirmed that season four will be the end.
Piper hasn’t said what the fourth season will hold but Madekwe shared that she thinks plots will “veer even further away from the client and prostitute relationship.”
She said, “There’s only so many times we can watch Billie have weird sex with weird men! In order for the show to continue to be interesting and fresh it would have to delve deeper into her life and away from the business. I think that’s where the real Belle de Jour went eventually.”
As with the previous three, Call Girl’s fourth season will be comprised of just eight episodes. They’ll start airing on ITV2 in January and will likely air on Showtime around the same time.
Though the TV show will be over, Piper said that producers are looking to develop a movie based on the series. The Sex and the City movies have apparently served as an inspiration for the team.
What do you think? Are you sad that the TV show will be ending next year? Would you like to see a big screen version of Secret Diary of a Call Girl?
Great beat ! I would like to apprentice while you amend your
website, how can i subscribe for a blog site?
The account helped me a acceptable deal. I had been a little bit acquainted of this your broadcast offered bright clear concept
I would’ve liked to see everything the same, except Stephanie stays in jail a bit longer. Just a 1 year sentence to give one more season to explore Belle as a madam.
I literally watched all four seasons on my iPad in two days I just discovered it and it was phenomenal please don’t end it like that so many loose ends !!!!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I just watched all 4 seasons. I really liked the show. A 5th season or movie would be great!!
i loved this show. i have to say the ending was really disapointing. too bad. i wish the show would have kept going.
I too loved the show very much I watched all 4 seasons in a month and the ended was so horrible. What I really don’t understand is its a show why did feminist hate it so much … It’s made up.
I watched this show and have to say its one of the worst written programs out there. Its not remotely believable that an escort would let her life get this out of control. Its as if some immature high school boy wrote it, with every silly cliché he could come up with. 1. She’s with one client, but leaves the door unlocked? So of course her boyfriend, who doesn’t know she’s an escort, walks in. 2. Her best friend is booked by a guy who turns out to be her next boyfriend, and all of this is revealed at, of… Read more »
It’s not poorly written and neither is it supposed to be realistic it’s meant to be entertaining not some Real House Wifes creap. Honestly nothing on TV is true to itself point of it all is to enjoy it and if you don’t like it there are so many other things to watch.
This response is not at all accurate. The writer must not have actually watched in detail. 1. She went to lock the door but opted to leave it unlocked because the client was disabled and escorted by his father, who was his caretaker, in case he needed to return. 2. Her relationship with her best friend is explained in the beginning; they previously were lovers who broke up realizing they worked better as friends, which is a very realistic scenario. Later they realized they knew so much about one another and the romance was reignited after many failed relationships, again… Read more »

I absolutely loved the show. I hoped they would not cancel, but what difference will it make if we protest. Will they change their mind? I don’t think so? BUT I HOPE THEY DO!
I just started watching the series it’s pretty good. Needs a little more substance by she would be great in the movie. Loved Billie in Dr Who and Penny Dreadful
Hope the series continues back at a later date
