Mary Murphy has left the So You Think You Can Dance judges table once again and now, Nigel Lythgoe is being joined by Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo. Travis Wall and Stephen “Twitch” Boss are back as mentors as part of a “Stage Vs. Street” twist. Will these changes help the show’s sagging ratings? Cancelled or renewed for season 13? Stay tuned.
Hosted by Cat Deeley, So You Think You Can Dance is a competition that pits dancers of various backgrounds against one another to become “America’s Favorite Dancer.”
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically the following morning, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
9/8 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Last year comparison: The 11th season of So You Think You Can Dance averaged a 1.25 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.11 million total viewers.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you still like the MasterChef TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a seventh season?
I hope it is renewed but with the original format. It was a family favorite (yes for the kids and parents) but this season is hard to watch. The ballroom guy who quit in the green mile episode was right. He wouldn’t have gotten to dance his style at all like he could have years ago. I miss the true variety and dancers who could seamlessly switch between genres. It didn’t matter if you were stage or street or whatever, you had to be able to do it all and that’s how they found the truly amazing people like FIkshun… Read more »

this used to be one of the best dance shows but the current season is awful. how do they fix it? Get rid of Paula, she’s ditzy and useless. Bring back guest judges with dance experience. Where is Adam shankman, Christina Applegate, Katie Holmes? Fire the costume team and bring back classy appropriate costumes. I’ve never seen such ugly costumes and even Cat looks awful. Get rid of this stage vs street nonsense, which eliminates most of the classical dances. Find more talented dancers. The current cast of dancers aren’t close to the level of past greats like Travis and… Read more »
Ratings have been on the decline the last few years, so, I understand the need to mix things up. Unfortunately, the key demographic is 18-49 so the changes were made to boost that target audience (more urban “street” contestants & Jason Derulo as a permanent judge). This however as you can see by the ratings above hasn’t helped. FOX pulled the plug on American Idol for the same decline in ratings, unfortunately SYTYCD may have run it’s course as well. We’ll see if it gets renewed for a final season or whether it ends this year, in any case we… Read more »
I do miss Mary Murphy and her screaming. Paula doesn’t give constructive criticism as a judge. Where are the other dance professionals who know the technicalities of the dance styles? Vegas week was the most disappointing though. Only 4 judges on d panel??
Nigel what has happened this year. I missed the first year but accidently discovered the show on the second year and fell totally with it. It has been the best show in many, many years out distancing shows such as the Idol by hundreds of miles. I grew up watching those great movies with Gene Kelly, Howard Keel, Doris Day and last evening I watched three shows of Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers (boy could they dance) Show like “So you think you can dance” will never go out of time. Please somebody lets get the smart pants and shoes… Read more »
I’m not liking this show now as Mary is gone, Paula talks to much, I hate the Stage vs. Street. I don’t even think the contestants are as good as past ones. I liked this show in the beginning when the contestants would pick the person they would be dancing with out of a hat or something like that and also would pick out what dance they would be doing. Now I’m just waiting to see who wins as I’ve been fast-forwarding through most of the dances now. I hope Virgil wins. If he goes home then I’m done with… Read more »
I can’t dance well. That said, I don’t think the contestants do much better than myself, if what is being shown is considered dancing.
Please bring back the authentic show and Mary Murphy. This year has been so painful to watch that I have stopped.
agree not only is it painful but its very sad to see his how go down hill after so many
years of being so great. THEY SURE BOMBED AND I THINK THAT IT WAS THE NETWRK
WHO MESED UP.
Please cancell this show. Please!!!
They have killed the show. How could you compare circus and Dance? And the judges???
Mary Murphy was witty, bright, funny. She knew what she was talking about.
But above all she was REAL and was talking from the heart.
I still don’t get how this show has lasted as long as it has. I’ve only seen small segments over the years and it seems like I’m watching a gymnast routine every time.
I was somewhat excited to watch premiere night. Then I realized that they were going to have a “Haves vs. Have Nots”, or “Black vs. White”, or whatever setup. All I know is it is going to have a bunch of music that doesn’t interest me a bit.
Thank you to whomever decided to do the stupid format this year. It is saving my DVR space.
You just lost the demographic over 30. I hope there is enough street dancers to make up your loss.
WASN’T TOO EXCITED ABOUT THE PREMIERE OF THE SHOW THIS YEAR…SOMETHING IS MISSING. PLEASE CORRECT IT, BECAUSE I AM NOT TOO INTERESTED IN WATCHING THIS YEAR….
Yikes, this show is NOT what it used to be. I just don’t understand how they can say that any of that “street dancing” is dancing at all! It’s one person gyrating like they’re having a seizure! I’ll be shocked if this program survives this season. Or if any of the street dancers can follow the tuff choregraphy. Then there were the transvestites! What?
