Syfy has confirmed that there won’t be a third season for Stargate Universe. The science fiction series has been cancelled after two seasons and 40 episodes.
The first half of season two finished airing on November 30th. The second 10 episodes are expected to air in the Spring of 2011. Unless the cable channel comes up with a replacement, this will mark the first time since 2002 that a Stargate series hasn’t aired on Syfy (previously known as the Sci-Fi Channel).
Stargate Universe follows a diverse exploration team who is unable to return to Earth after evacuating to a Ancient spaceship that’s headed to a distant part of the universe. The cast includes Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, and Ming-Na.
Here’s the official statement from Syfy…
Syfy will end its original action-adventure series Stargate Universe when the show returns with the final 10 episodes of its second season in the Spring of 2011. The Stargate franchise — consisting of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe — has aired on Syfy since 2002.
Syfy has a slate of new sci-fi/fantasy scripted projects lined up for 2011 including the series premiere of Being Human on January 17, the recently green lit one-hour drama series Alphas and the much anticipated Battlestar Galactica prequel pilot movie, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. Warehouse 13, Eureka and Haven will also return with new seasons next year.
It’s unclear if the final 10 episodes of Stargate Universe will give closure to the series.
What do you think? Are you sorry that SGU is coming to an end? Do you think the ongoing storylines will be resolved?
SyFi getting rid of a scifi show about the exploration of the human race is a smart one. We scifi lovers don’t need another show about the expansion of the human race onboard a spaceship somewhere in the multiverse exploring how we would adapt and overcome; we need more episodes of any WWE sweatfest and reruns of 1980’s movies. This is smart money, after all no one watches SyFi for cutting edge ideas, we watch to see the new reality tv shows and nothing to do with the ideas of exploration. So hats off to the board that runs SyFi… Read more »
I’m sorry to see a good show end! I won’t be watching much SyFy as every time I find a program on there that I like it gets cancelled. Maybe they should think about cancelling the person who chooses what stays and what goes!
I cant believe they are cancelling SGU, this show is so good. At first I didn’t think it was going to be good at all, but I watched the first episode and got hooked.
Please please please keep this show on the Air.
Keep SGU alive. Love this show.
i love Stargate damn that sucks
I loved Stargate SG1 and Atlantis and although I was unsure of SGU to begin with I gave it another shot and season 2 has been amazing, The kind of light hearted show Stargate is was taken away and to be honest as a fan that dissopinted me, but because I’m a geek with OCD and I can’t stand to leave a story unfinished I figured I’d give it another shot, and season 2 was great, it managed to be dark like Galactica and Caprica but still had some light-hearted humur SG is good at! I now love SGU like… Read more »
I’m glad the show is over soon. It honestly is nothing special and you can see that they struggle to bring in something new each episode – which mostly fails.
SGU has a good story. I somewhat disagree with negative comments about the characters. While I don’t like a lot of them, I do think that all of them are interesting. With a few illogical antics aside, I think that their struggles, given that most of them were never supposed to be there on that ship, are understandable. I think this show is much better than Galactica and Caprica, and presents better stories as well as moving a lot faster than the other two. Plus the Stargate franchise has a lot of life in it. So while doing the “universe”… Read more »
I just dont get this. My whole family and relatives all watch this amazing show. Most everything else on SyFy sucks. The only other show i watch is Eurika.
this si an outrage , they keep ending good programs.
i love this show.
keep it on the air
I agree the John the builder’s comments. Stargate is probably my favorite show on TV right now. The one big problem that the syfy channel has is that it only has cable viewers. Also, Friday nights are very difficult for shows since it seems like a lot of people don’t tune in to watch TV in general. I DVR the show and watch it over the weekend. Here is an idea for the syfy channel. Rerun the shows in the weekend so more people can watch them and get them more exposure. What do I know. I am going down… Read more »
Good Morning SYFI You know I am disappointed. I have enjoyed several of your programs over the years. I have also noticed that such programs as “Warehouse 13”( not canceled), have started to get at best a silly. However in “Stargate Universe” you have a relatively sound and exciting program that rides like a killer bull at the rodeo. You climb in the seat, grab the remote and try to hold on for 60 minutes. I’m a general building contractor, with an extensive background engineering and military flight test programs. Granted my twenty some years of involvement with the government… Read more »
first timer
i totaly agree
How they could cancel this is beyond me. Let’s all boycott syfi for a year. I will ask everyone that I know to follow – a few hundred less viewers will not make a difference but it makes a statement.
SyFy continues to screw with its programming. I’m not sure who is responsible, but I will only be watching 3 shows on this channel: Sanctuary, Warehouse 13, and Eureka. Who knows if some corporate stooge will cancel those this year, as well. “Caprica” and “Stargate Universe” were good shows. SyFy is so unoriginal now, they have to copy a UK show to get ratings. Just pathetic.
Lets save SGU!!. Lets send letters on why you like Stargate Universe and send it to: 30 Rockefeller Plz 2fl, New York, NY 10112 or call(212)413-5000 Pass this message forward.
