It turns out that there won’t be a sixth season of the Switched at Birth TV show on Freeform. Series creator and executive producer Lizzy Weiss has confirmed that season five will be the end. She wrote, “This season of #SwitchedatBirth will be our final one. We are ending the show after an amazing 103 episodes with pride, love, and gratitude.”
Switched at Birth follows the lives of two teenage girls after it’s discovered that they ended up with the others’ families as babies at the hospital. The cast includes Vanessa Marano, Katie Leclerc, Lea Thompson, Constance Marie, Sean Berdy, D.W. Moffett, Lucas Grabeel, and Giles Marini.
The series debuted in June 2011, won a Peabody Award in 2013, and features several deaf and hard-of-hearing series regulars. The fourth season finished airing in October 2015 was down by 28% in both the 18-49 demographic and total viewership. The fifth and final season has yet to be scheduled and will apparently have just 10 episodes (93 installments have aired over the previous four seasons).
What do you think? Are you a fan of this series? Do you think the final season of Switched at Birth should have been longer? Would you have watched a sixth season?
Please renew Switched at Birth. So much left to be said and done. Need more shows that embrace the messiness of life and relationships that fight for each other.
Please bring back the show, it’s touches on everyday life. Love all the characters and always had me wanting more! We need another season
Yess we do need another season! Much more
They need to do another Season. My 11 yr old daughter and i just watched all five seasons in a month to catch up to recent episodes to find out its over. Really dissappointed. There is so much more of a story line here. I think Tobys concern for his son brings him into a career with Down Syndrome some how.
Renew season 6!!! I love this show.
renew season 6, good story line, actors and should be renewed.
I wish there should be season 6 Switched at Birth. At the final of the season 5 at the end about Angelo’s heart. It’s driving me crazy. I wanna see the next episode. Hopefully the show will be back no matter how the rating is.
My daughter & I watched this show! We love it! For me, it was not just a great show tgat brought attention to the issues of accidental switches at birth that do happen sadly due to overworked & underpaid nurses; it also showed that actors and actresses like the fantastic Actress Marlee Matlin who broke into the industry when she stared in Children of a Lesser God and won not only a Golden Globe but also an Academy Award too for her roll; can act be they fully deaf or only impared and use hearing aids like the actress who… Read more »
Please reconsider on making a season 6 I was so excited to to find out that there was a season 5.I loved watching this show when I was in the hospital and it was just something interesting to watch when I was all alone there or board it was just like it helped me not think about what I was going through. So please reconsider because I would watch switched at birth forever.
I really wanted them to renew Switched at birth because I fell in love with this show. Everything about it is just amazing and they really could have done way more seasons than 5. Pretty little liars (which I also love) is also ending and it had more seasons. It’s just horrible to think that there is only a few deaf shows. Even though I’m not deaf, this is by far the best deaf/drama show out their. It even inspired me to learn ASL. If it had such a great impact on many viewers, then why did they cancel it?… Read more »
I’m disappointed to hear that season 5 will be the last. I absolutely love this show. Very few shows keep me interested and excited for the next episode. Switched at birth has so many ups and downs and leaves the viewer wanting more. Sad to see the show come to a end when the characters and writers have so much more to offer. Still hoping that the show will continue after season 5.
To find out that switched at birth is coming back on is devasting iblove this show and have been a huge fan since day one please reconsider making a sixth season
When I found out that there wasn’t going to be a season 6 I was so sad because, this show is so amazing. I don’t understand why more people don’t watch it. It is entertaining, has some good life advice, and is also very suspenseful. It keeps me waiting for what happens next. And honestly I wish that maybe there was also another season to see if Bay and Emmett realize that they can’t stay away from each other because letting go of thing may seem like a good and easy chose and something they needed to do for each… Read more »
I just discovered Switched at Birth a month ago on Netflix. Maybe more people didn’t know about it either. I had never heard of it or I would have watched it sooner. They should have advertised it more. I absolutely love it!
Yes ! I would have watched a sixth season and a seventh …!
I`m not hearing impaired But I do love this program it is one of the best please reconsider. Stop cancelling programs like Drop Dead Diva, And Switched at Birth that are real in their contents and with actors that for one do care about us real people, not the shallowness of Hollywood.
Yes, I would have watched a sixth season. Switched at Birth needed a minimum of seven seasons to tell the complete story. Season 4 did a good job of getting the characters to the middle of their plot, but much story is left to tell. It’s a shame the show will have to be wrapped up so quickly now. I never missed an episode. I’ll definitely tune in for the last 10 episodes. Wish it could have been more. Switched at Birth is the best quality series on TV.
