Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

Loved terriers. Great acting. Great writing. Bring it back or find another series for Logue & Raymond-James. They had good chemistry. Also thought the ex partner was a good fit. Worse series have come back. FX should re think decision!
Terriers was awesome. I dvr’d every episode. Bring the Damn show back.
I am from Slovakia europe and searching for release date season 2. Excelent show !!! Maybe is’t enough stupid for this world but i liked it so much. Very bad news for me :((((
I am terribly disappointed, one of the few series on cable or network that attract my interest. Well written, interesting characters that were real & likable, a progressive storyline that made the viewer hunger for the next episode. There just aren’t enough good shows like this on TV – it would have caught on. I hope someone picks the show up. If not Thanks for the five fantastic episodes.
LetS all flood fx network with emails
Enough already….I have had it with these networks dumping good shows. Terriers was awesome and better than the promos showed. I think a big part of tv viewers are being alienated by these networks. Enough of the brainless useless crap called reality shows. If I hear about American idol one more time I am gonna puke. Now not just one night is enough, they are gonna waste 4 hours on two nights……enough……fx please put terriers back on. I think we all want to know……did they go to Mexico or stay.
Waaaay tooo bad that you cancelled.
A brilliant series, definitely deserves a re-think!
Checking to see when the next season started only to find out it was cancelled. This was the only show my husband and I have both enjoyed in a long time, and we just found it channel surfing one night….very upset to find out its not coming back….please bring it back……we need to know what happens!
please rethink i love this show
We think it might have been the name, which failed to attract people. We only checked it out after a friend urged us and were critical from the beginning. But that was over after ten minutes. The show was amazing, smart, funny, with interesting plots, maybe too intelligent for the masses?
Please bring Terriers back. This was a great show. Maybe another channel could pick it up. Alot of people I know never heard of it–they did not give this show enought hype.
Today I googled to see when the next season of Terriers would begin. What a shock. The only show on FX I watched before Terriers was Rescue Me. I saw the promo for Terriers and decided to tune in. From the first episode I was hooked. Not many network shows gain my viewership and praise. Terriers was one of the three shows my wife and I had to see every week this last autumn (the other two being Dexter and Boardwalk Empire). Perhaps the show should shop themselves to HBO or Showtime. No second season for Terriers would be a… Read more »
A true disappointment that the show has been cancelled. My husband and I really enjoyed it. It was one of the few on TV that we made sure we watched instead of popping in a movie or reading. There have been other shows in the past that networks have given a chance because of good reviews and had then taken hold with audiences due to better scheduling and promoting. There are way to many clunkers that survivie due to their luck of scheduling only. Wise up networks. And you wonder why people complain about what there is to watch on… Read more »
I don’t think satellite was the issue in an age where people can download these shows for free via torrents or get them some other way. The advertisements made no sense. I tried doing some research when I first started seeing these weird dog ads on TV for a new show on FX and couldn’t find anything. FX should have at least tried some reruns with revamped advertisements and taken a chance on these guys for season 2. It’s hard to imagine what that would be – with the deaths and the major drama going on at the end of… Read more »
One of the reasons I think this show suffered was due to the issues that F/X was having with different satellite providers. When I told my parents about the show they had no idea because their provider was no longer carrying F/X. You can blame advertising and the title of the show but when a large number of individuals are unable to even watch the show there is your problem. F/X shouldn’t punish viewers because of a squabble they had with the satellite companies. The uproar from critics and fans should be enough for them to reconsider bringing this show… Read more »
I totally agree. I hardly ever watch tv shows but I loved Terriers. I watched it from day one & didn’t miss an episode. I was so looking forward to Season 2. This really sucks.
