Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

such a shame – I was waiting for it to return and then found this site. The name didn’t help.
This is so typical of Fox. They have a long history of drawing viewers in with top notch edgy shows only to cancel the show before it reaches a conclusion. They want us to be loyal viewers, but they can’t preform and they can’t finish. Fox is like a porn movie without a money shot. I really feel bad for the writers, the cast and crew of this show, it was well written, well acted and a joy to watch.
I personally liked these two characters and wish they would take a chance on them. History has it that shows like this have a slow start. Or do like the big boys do change the time slot. I am sure these guys are not in the same price range as Selleck.
I’m pissed. I loved that show. My kids couldn’t watch it so I recorded each show and my wife and would watch it Saturday mornings. It was clearly one of the besy shows on TV.
This sucks. I really liked the show and was just checking when it would be on again. I never wateched the show live and I didn’t think to watch it until my brother recommended to me, so I think it could have been marketed better. I also think the show would have gained popularity if it stayed on longer. Definitely one of those “cult” follower type shows, that would eventually become popular because the masses would catch on to what the people who really knows what is good is cool. Kind of Big Lebowski-esque in that sense.
Brutal. I was just looking through Google to see when season was coming out on dvd and stumbled upon the complete cancellation. FX had my vote for best programming, and this show really rounded it out nicely. Definitely need more. Keep Terriers alive, some one!
I really have no idea why this absolutely outstanding show was canceled. I loved it soooo much. It was extremely enjoyable. It angers me that FX would do such a crime. It’s an atrocity against humanity.
Terriers was an awesome show!!! Thanks to Dish Network, your numbers couldn’t tell the real story. Damn it…advertise better and the show would be a HIT!!!
Terriers was my favorite new show. Great casting and very subtle plot nuances…which is probably the problem. When you look back on series, such as MASH and Cheers that aspired to something better to offer TV viewers, it took them some times to catch on and for the audiences to find them. That problem is compounded today with so many cable channels. I hope someone brings it back and quick. It would be a shame to loose such a talented bunch.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVED the show Terriers. It was one of three shows I actually watched on tv. Donal Logue is one of my favorites! I have kept track of him since ER and he was in another show cancellation that was a big mistake: The Knights of Prosperity. Michael Raymond-James caught my eye on True Blood so I was anxious to get to see hime in another venue. Again, I am so disappointed this show is not continuing. It needs to come back!!
What a bitter pill….I’ve lost two of my favorite shows from last season, Terriers and Rubicon (AMC). Maybe too good for the general public!
Terriers was a great show. Good writing, good story line, fantastic casting. I would be there are a ton of TV shows that will keep getting renewed with a smaller audience than Terriers.
There was nothing not to like about this series.
Hope that you will let FX know out feelings.
Seriously….you guys cancelled it…It was/is such a great buddy show and the actors were such regular good guys just trying to help and looking for love. Was not the best choice of a title…but they could have used better advertising too. Maybe another network will pick up the show….
THE REASON VIEWING DROP IS DUE TO THE DAMN DISH NETWORK LOST FX FOR TWO MONTHS THAT WHY IT DROPED AND THEY NEED TO BRING IT BACK
