We’ve had plenty of rumors over the past year about The Game and now we have another one. Has BET made a deal to pick up the cancelled sitcom for real this time?
The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
The series was cancelled by The CW after three seasons on the air. Even before the cancellation was announced, there were rumors that BET might pick it up and produce new episodes.
In September, news surfaced but nothing happened. In October, there were more rumors but nothing happened. Then, in November, the cast reunited on The Mo’Nique Show. Promos showed the host asking the cast if The Game was coming back but that portion was edited out of the actual show.

Now, BVBuzz is reporting that BET has made a deal with Paramount to produce new episodes. Their source said, “The deal is done between the two networks. Now it’s a matter of getting the actors under contract again.” When the show was cancelled last Spring, the actors’ contracts expired.
The contracts are reportedly expected to be finalized in the next couple weeks. The only snag might be Bell, who recently signed on to join the cast of USA’s Burn Notice. It sounds like he’ll still return to The Game but won’t be a series regular.
Series creator Mara Brock Akil is expected to return as well. Once the deal is finalized, production is supposedly scheduled to begin in May in Atlanta.
While the new details sound very promising, we’ve all been fooled before. The difference is that, this time, the actors seem to be talking about it as well. Hall, tweeted a message that said, “Hey @hoseachanchez have u heard? I know I didn’t hear what I think I heard? Hey girl @TiaMowry did you hear? I’ll say THASSWASSUP! Finally!”
Mohry responded to him by writing, “ummmm yes sir!!! Uh oh… That’s wassup aka Derwin Davis. Let’s go!!!” Later, she thanked her readers for their continued devotion to The Game and encouraged them to tell BET how much they love it.
So, it seems like it’s really happening this time, though the actors haven’t signed contracts yet. Hopefully that will go smoothly and we’ll hear an official announcement soon.

Although, I am very excited about the show returning, I hope that changes will be made. The show became very raunchy towards the end. It started to promote stereotypical views about african-americans. The show often contained explicit language, calling each other”*******, and hoes.” This is not what we should be promoting or be represented by.
I love The Game and I hope that BET brings new episodes. I’m not going to get my hopes up until I see advertisement on BET for new episodes
Yes I am so excited the my show the game is coming back!!! This is one of my favorite shows ever, Got disappointed the there could have been a possiblity that the show wasnt coming back. I hope everybody from the cast returning because i feel that it would not be same!!!
I love “The Game” and I am praying it returns for it’s fourth season. As I have sais before it is nice to see African-Americans being portrayed in a positive role. I like the concept that African-Americans can be wealthy, educated, and positive role models. They are very talented actors and actresses and they represent the African-American people vey well. Most shows only want to portray African-Americans as poverty-stricken, ghetto living, and drug selling or using. Hats off to “The Game”. Hurry back on the air!!
I LOVE THIS SHOW. IT IS NEVER BORING FROM LINE TO LINE IT KEEPS YOUR ATTENTION. THERE IS NOT MANY SHOWS THAT HAS THIS LEVEL OF ENTERTAINMENT THAT KEEPS YOU WANTING MORE AND MORE. EACH CHARACTER IS SOOOOOO REAL AND WE CAN SEE OUR SELVES IN THE LIVES OF THESE CHARACTERS. PLEASE BRING THE GAME BACK ON THE REGULAR.

Im so excited to hear that The Game may be back!!!!! Me and my friends watch the old episodes on a daily basis and cant wait for the new ones to begin!!! When will it air?? Any new info?? Thats literally my FAVORITE tv show ever! I can’t wait for the new episodes, and am a faithful viewer!!!

I really hope they DO bring The Game back this time I have seen every single eposide and even when the reruns come on I watch it again…and again…and again! I woudl love to see what happens next! We need more good Black shows on television…bring it back!!!
The Game gives hope to the others who are in similar situations. I love the roles that everyone plays ex special the roles of Melanie and Derwin. They have been thru so much and im just really glad that they got married. this show seems so really and i really love it and people all around the world love this show. I’m soooo excited! I really hope this is true. I never really liked The Game until I watched it on BET. The casting for the show is awesome and the actors’ chemistry is wonderful as well. It’ll suck if Coby didn’t come back though because that’s one storyline that I was really looking forward to being continued.
I hope that the Game returns, and I don’t care what network, hopefully, BET. We need more entertainment that focus on people of color. I hope that it come true.
I am so happy that some great Actors will be put back to work. I miss shows like the Game, Girl Friend, Lincoln Heights and from the 90’s Living Single. Friends was nothing but a “white version of Living Single. Yes I liked Cosby, but my world was Living single, and “My Girl Friends” And I want to see Black Women, with Black Men.
