Last week, FOX gave viewers a sneak preview of one of their new series — The Good Guys. The TV show is set for a summer run and already has a spot on the network’s fall schedule. Will it last that long?
The Good Guys is an action comedy that pairs a washed-up, old-school cop (Bradley Whitford) with a young, by-the-book detective (Colin Hanks). Others in the series include Jenny Wade, Diana-Maria Riva, Jennifer Besser, Kimberly Lynn Campbell, Kennith Edwards, Nathan Fane, and Arthur Wooldridge.
Last Wednesday’s premiere attracted a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. That put the TV show’s debut in fourth place in total viewership and tied for third in the coveted demographic with NBC’s Minute to Win It.

That’s hardly a great start and doesn’t bode well for the series’ future. Ratings typically drop lower for a show’s second episode and Good Guys doesn’t exactly have any to spare.
The network isn’t giving up though and has scheduled extra chances to see the pilot by re-airing it this Friday (May 28th) and again on Monday, May 31st. The Good Guys’ regular season will then begin on Monday, June 7th.
Based on the early ratings, one could expect that the series would have a quiet summer run and then be gone. However, FOX had such faith in the series that they gave it a spot on the fall schedule, following Human Target on Friday nights.
Ratings expectations are lower for summers and Friday nights. However, it seems highly unlikely that, unless viewership improves, the show will last beyond the first season.
What do you think? Is The Good Guys worth watching or would you just cancel it now?

We love this show! We are in the 47-54 age range, and it seems like–even though we are baby boomers and the BIGGEST % of adults–most shows are catering to either the young adult or reality TV viewers. This show is hilarious, smart, and appeals to adults who have a brain. Bradley Whitford is a scream–we love his character–and Colin Hanks is a great partner. Sometimes we watch it twice and every time I catch something funny. Please keep this one Fox–the Hanks/Whitford combo is just perfect–and is the only comedy (other than HBO’s Curb)–that is sharp. We look forward… Read more »
We never miss this show. Funny and fresh! Please keep the show going.
Keep this show — it is great — and very funny.
Love this show. It is very entertaining. Please don’t cancel it.
I have been an extra on the show, and love it. I have not seen Bradley Whitford do such broad comedy, and think he is terrific at it. Colin Hanks seems to have inherited some of his father’s comic timing. Give the show a chance. Look at shows in the past that did not do well initially, that had long runs. Namely, All In the Family, and M*A*S*H*
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! Fox, please do not cancel, it deserves to stick around! My family, ages ranging from 8 years to 51, all adore this show and laugh out loud throughout every episode. Although I’ve watched every episode, I’m still enjoying the marathon today (10 July 2010) on FX. Bradley Whitford is comedy gold, and such a wonderful change from The West Wing. Colin Hanks is his perfect comedy foil. Come on, Fox, this one’s a keeper!!!
I love the humor; especially on the Chinese Hitman. I was rolling on the floor. Keep it going.
I think this show is hilarious! I can’t get enough of it. I really hope they keep it on.
I don’t have the time to watch it when it’s on, so i watch it on the internet. I know, naughty me but there’s no other way for me to watch it.
I have been a police officer for fifteen years now. This show is the best crime-drama-comedy on the boob-tube to date. It presents a more softer side of what we do. Albeit somewhat outlandish, the humor is quite refreshing. I absolutely love Dan Starke. I laugh my but off every show. I was disapponted this past Monday night having to watch a re-run. I look forward to this show’s success.
keep this show! i watch it every week more than once!
We love this show. It has a lot more going for it then first appears. Hope the money men don’t ruin the chances of another good show that needs time to mature
I love it please don’t cancel it!
LOVE THIS SHOW. Currently nothing on TV like it. Ratings are ratings, but this show is fantastic. I’m 34 and I can relate easily to both characters. Hope it doesn’t get cancelled, but, as they say, it’s just business.
this is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. I have been telling everyone about it and turned alot of folks on too it. Great show, with great writing and charachters!!! This show better stay on.
My husband and I are in the 55-61 age group. We love, love, love this show. We know it is a spoof on real crime drama and find it very refreshing and funny. I have a nephew who is 41, he likes it as much or more than we do. Really hope it makes it. My husband actually ha-ha laughs out loud. Not many shows or movies make him do that. Please keep it going. It gets better and better each week.
