NBC is billing The Slap as a mini-series so it doesn’t seem like there’s any danger of the series being cancelled. However, if the ratings are bad enough, they could certainly pull it before all eight episodes have aired. Conversely, if the ratings are really good, they could figure out a way to bring the characters back for a second season. What will happen? Stay tuned.
On The Slap TV show, a birthday celebration comes to an abrupt halt when a man slaps another couple’s misbehaving child. It’s a small action that ends up deeply affecting all involved. The cast for the mini-series includes Peter Sarsgaard, Thandie Newton, Uma Thurman, Makenzie Leigh, Zachary Quinto, Dylan Schombing, Thomas Sadoski, Melissa George, Brian Cox, Lucas Hedges, Maria Tucci, Marin Ireland, and Penn Badgley.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/5 update: Should NBC pull this mini-series from Thursday nights?
4/3 update: NBC has confirmed that there won’t be a second season of The Slap.
Final season averages: 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.62 million total viewers.

Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Slap TV series? Would you like to see the characters return for a second season somehow? Should NBC pull it before all eight episodes have aired?
Love this show! Please keep it!
Great show! I hope it gets brought back for sure.
I have watched each episode of The Slap. I find it interesting and well acted. The child should not have been slapped in the face. His Mother’s overreaction made it worse.
The 5 year old does appear to have behavioral issues. How many middle class families have not started their child in preschool by age 5? On the other hand, Harry is a bully. His past abuse of his wife and handling of his own son is poor.
The show is great. I hope that it is renewed for next year!
This show clearly hits a lot of nerves but the realality is that children of today are not taught respect for their elders. that is why we have so much violance going on around the world. As a christian I see no problem in spanking a child . It never hurt me none and it hasn’t stopped the abuse. If anything it has taught descpline. Do any of the children of today say thank you or please or even yes sir or no sir? Respect is earned. I like the show it is real and no I do not agree… Read more »
The original Austrailian version is critically acclaimed. Maybe the book is a better read than the US version of the mini series
Maybe everyone should read the book.
I was born in the 90’s and I remember when I would get in trouble my Parents grounded me and disciplined me and that made me a better person because I learned to respect people. When I do have kids they will be disciplined the same way I was disciplined when I was a kid because right now we are not disciplining the kids now. We are letting them walk all over us and that is sad.
I’m seeing a pattern here w/the comments. We older folks are more likely to agree that DISCIPLINE and teaching respect for others is very important. Younger folks seem to be the ones w/the out of control kids who think they should have/get whatever they want. Welcome to the age of the gimme generation! God help us.
We’re at least one generation beyond that…The 80’s kids were that generation and these are their kids who really in the long run filter down from what we raised in the 70’s and 80’s……No simple solution anyway we look at it. Those of us raised in the 50’s and 60’s saw corporate punishment ok by other adults in several areas including school so we often tried to correct those wrongs, but we’ve gone from one extreme to another…Which is often the way with mere humans when making uncoordinated changes to social structure…..When we’re worm food it’ll probably even out somewhat….But… Read more »
Well I guess spell check had a different take then me, but I guess you could call it “Corprate Punishment” too in one perspective
OK I watched it and I see it this way. The 1st problem is the parents of the little kid or “monster”. They have not taught the child any manners at all and let him do as he wants. Breastfeeding him at that age is just dumb. It reminds me of the story of breastfeeding a child that is over age for breast feeding. It’s called in the book “A Tree Grows In Brooklyn” “Giving the baby the Gussie”. The “Gussie” story is hilarious and worth reading for the LOL but, I digress. 2nd My first thought is the little… Read more »
Very Interesting program —- perhaps 18-49 may not see all the impact this program can have in everyday life. At 70 I see much more than that “slap”. I see many troubled people in this family/friendships saga. This child has very troubled parents for one thing and of course the slap was at the wrong end. “Never in the Face” is my and other’s motto. Controlling parents giving such a lavish gift (trip to Greece) (not even checking the possibility of not wanting this kind of trip — meaning well but still controlling)- the attraction of the very young babysitter… Read more »
This show looks incredibly stupid. God forbid a kid gets slap these days. I can’t believe the premise of this show.
Horrible series in more ways than one.
At a 1.1, we won’t have this show to slap around for long.
Perhaps if the parents had been watching and discipling the kid, the slap would not have ever happened. So then no need for this show and we’d be saved from it.
Next season “The Punch” Followed by “The Kick To The Nads” then finally “The Bat”. All kinds of excitement
“Kick to the Nads” made me laugh. Thanks. I guess we already have that, in a way, via “America’s Funniest Videos,” where someone’s always getting a baseball, a bat, etc., in that special place. Stand back from that pinata, Pops!
