To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I enjoyed the show, but the characters needed more development early on. They felt somewhat muted. Changing the timeslot didn’t help at all. If anything, it effectively killed it. The group of actors was wonderful. I’ll watch Kate Moennig in anything. Alex O’Laughin is good, too. I hope they find a good series.
How disappointing! This was one of my favorite new shows – Please ABC, bring it back! Don’t leave us with just all the dumb so-called “reality shows”!
OOPS – make that CBS..
What a shame this well-written and acted show had to be cancelled in CBS’ small mindedness, I believe. It could have been in a better time slot, for sure, instead of scheduling it on SUNDAY NITE?? I am sure it could have beaten out one of those garbage reality shows on other networks!? And, Alex O’Loughlin—what a loss to not see him after looking forward to this series after his OTHER show on CBS was cancelled!? CBS need some better decisions on programming slots, for sure!
I personally don’t like this kind of medical drama, but TR changed my mind.
The stories really touched the person who had experienced the situation in their life and could effect someone’s life in the future.
It’s one of the most inspiration dramas I’ve ever seen.
Pleaseeeee bring it back. Sunday night might not be a good time for this show.
People need to see this show.
It’s not just a drama. It’s real.
What a great show. It seems so real and it hits close to home. At one time not long ago I was on a transplant list for weekend I was number one on that list. But God had a different plan for me and never received the transplant and I am doing well. The show brings a look how transplants can change a number of lives. Maybe the show can change someones mind when that time arrived. Three Rivers needs to continue.
Of course the good shows always get cancelled. Of course one of the few shows where people are doing something good. Sad quality doesn’t matter anymore.
I was so upset when I heard Three Rivers had
been cancelled. I loved this show. It had great
story line. And really made people think
about the importance of being a organ
donor. Maybe if they would change the day
and time it would have a chance. Please CBS
bring this show back. Listen to the fans that
love this show.
I loved Three Rivers. I get so angry when I
think of all the shows that I really love that
CBS has cancelled. There are so many shows
they could cancel instead like all the stupid
reality shows, maybe if they would put
Three Rivers on a different day and different
time it would have a chance. I love this show!!!!
CBS PLEASE bring this show back. Listen
to all the fans for once!!!!
Finally a show with meaning and could actually inspire people to do good deeds and imagine that….they take it off the air!!! Go figure!
i thought the show was very good hopefully it will come back and be strong
I loved Three Rivers-it is really disappointing that it has been cancelled. Many of my friends and relatived also really liked the show…..I hope CBS reconsiders the decision!
I am so sorry to see Three Rivers pulled. I have been looking for it for 3 weeks now. I wish they would try another night other then Sunday. It is so hard to conpete with Sunday Night Football. Please try a Tuesday or Thursday or even Saturday before you really pull the plug. I believe this show could help alot of people understand about organ donations and could help save alot of lives. The cast were the best and they need to know they did a very good job.
I really enjoyed Three Rivers! The shows writers melded the individual stories so well and it always held my attention! I’ve been looking for the show for the past few weeks wondering where it went – shame on CBS – give it a chance!
I have been watching Sunday nights for the next Three Rivers episode. I am SO DISAPPOINTED to find out it has been cancelled. There are so many shows with much less quality… cancel those and leave the good dramas on television.
Three Rivers is a GREAT show. It shows and should motivate people to become organ donators. It was in the worst time slot because sometimes you have to wait forever for it to begin because of late starts because of football. I think that it should be switched to a different night like Thursday. I believe that the networks don’t give the new shows a chance putting them on Sunday night never knowing when they will begin.
