To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I have been reading these comments since I first saw this site, and I honestly do not think that the producers, etc of Three Rivers care what we say or think. I do not believe they even read what we have to say here, like about putting this show on a different night. I think I saw Alex on a different show’s trailer so he is gone from TR. It is useless to comment any more on the demise of TR. Why bother writing any longer?
I REALLY LIKED THREE RIVERS AND HAD NO IDEA WHY IN THE WORLD THEY TOOK IT OFF!! I WAS REALLY INTO IT AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN…..GONE!! I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY IT GOT BAD RATINGS?? MAYBE MOVE IT TO EITHER MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY OR FRIDAY……FRIDAY WOULD BE GREAT SEEING HOW THERE’S NOTHING GOOD ON FRIDAYS ANYMORE!!
What were they thinking?
This turkey was laughingly bad. The acting over the top and those gee whiz tacky futuristic special effects were hoaky. While, this show was based on a 70’s style overacted melodramatic format. Anyone remember Chopper 1? With that stupid helicopter graphic. I’ve never seen a hospital with such futuristic Buck Rogers techno gee gaws. This show was more suited for NBC which is not a compliment. The only saving grace for this otherwise crappy pablum was the episode with the teen gymnast.
Save Three Rivers! It was a greay show! Much better acting then in Trama…please bring it back! Bring it back on thursdays…there’s not much competing with it and a 9 o’clock start would be perfect after Bones!
This was a great show and should not be cancelled. There are many time slots when there is absolutely nothing good to watch and yet new shows are put up against top rated shows. Look at Wednesday 10 pm & Friday at 9 & 10 pm PST time slots where there is nothing good to watch. Also 7 pm is a good time on almost any night. New shows should start out at times where they have a chance to catch on with the viewers. Many people are turning to TNT, FX and other cable channels to watch the drama… Read more »
Three Rivers is a great show. CBS needs to give it another chance and give it a better time slot. Starting it in the fall and up against Sunday night football was not fair. It was so different from the other medical shows, it was refreshing. PLEASE definitely let us see the other 5 episodes already made. Maybe even another network could pick it up. Someone above said something about giving it more time to catch on. I agree.
Why is it when a decent show comes along they give it horrible time slots & expect it to take off when they move it from one night to another. This show needs a second chance. Wasn’t Seinfeld almost pulled after the first season?? Just goes to show you sometimes it takes a bit longer to catch on but why just pull it. Since you have the shows air them it’s got to be less expensive then starting a new show. This show should be a Tues, or Wed. evening show.
I also loved this show. With the loss of ER, I was looking for another medical drama and found it in CBS’s Three Rivers. There are so many cop drama’s especially on CBS with the CSI series(es); I do like them; it’s just that beyond reality shows….the networks don’t give new shows time to get going unless they debut in the spring. Why CBS would ever debut it in the fall against Sunday night football is beyond me!?!? Perhaps another drama network or cable channel will pick it up like the CW or Lifetime or Showtime. It’s a great show… Read more »
i lovedd this show.. i looked foward to watching it every night.. i was so sad when i found out they took it off the air, now im into mercy and trauma on nbc.. but three rivers really got my heart pumping.. i really hope it comes back!
I loved this show. Having three children with chronic liver diseases, and knowning they will need a liver transplant this show was a great insite into the world of transplants. My oldest daughter is 5 and has just been listed. I really hope they bring this show back!
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A GREAT SHOW. LOVE ALEX LOUGHLIN. I REALLY HOPE THE SHOW DOESN’T GET CANNED. IT WOULD REALLY BE A SHAME.
I’D AT LEAST LIKE TO BE ABLE TO WATCH ALL 13 OF THEM…
PLEASE DON’TLET THIS GO OFF THE AIR. IT WAS SO DIFFERENT THEN THE USUSAL MEDICAL & COP DRAMAS!
Acting was not very good. Very cookie cutter dialogue and writing. Daniel Henney’s presence was the only redeeming thing about the show. Do not revive this medical drama. Would take alot more than two paddles and 1000 volts to do so.
This was one of the best tv series on. It was nice to see that it was not another reality show. My husband and I loved the show and would love to see it brought back on another night when there is absolutely nothing on. It seems as though everything good on tv is on, on the same nights. Please bring 3 rivers back.
I loved this show tremendously. TV is beyond saturation of idiotic reality shows. CBS needs to bring show back on different night and give more air time to other characters besides main doctor. Seeing him in every scene was redundant. Other than that, show’s a winner.
