To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I just found this show on last Saturday night, and then again this week. Am so sad to hear that it is going to be cancelled. Never saw ads for it last year. It is one of the best shows on for a long time. My husband died a sudden death, and we donated his organs and tissues. I think this show if it were to stay on tv could give donation lots of publicity, and help people to know that it is the right thing to do. Please if you can reconsider the decision to end this great show.
Three Rivers is amazing. Not only the characters but it helps folks remember that the transplant program can save so many lives. People need to remember and what a wonderful show to help them do so. It is a NEW direction for the medical shows and much better than most. Please KEEP THIS ONE… I love it.. and Alex is a better doctor than a love struck vampire!!! He is good at what ever he does.
it is very sad CBS producers have decided to ‘kill’ “3 Rivers.”
i agree with the rest of the fans. if you create something, should
you not believe in this product. If you believe. Publicize, your
product!!! Publicize.
I wish the show had not been cancelled, but at least they are showing the last of the episodes. They are on Saturday evening. Even if CBS decided to bring back Three Rivers, it would not have Alex in it as he is committed to the new Hawaii Five-O that will begin in the Fall. Previewed the clip of the show and I think Alex has a show that will stay on the air for more than one season. It is not medical, but it is action.
I wrote the first time it was canceled and now here I read they have canceled it again! It is so upsetting to see a show with a real message to encourage transplant organ donation being canceled. I realize it is a drama and is not quite the way it goes but that is not the point of the show as far as I am concerned. It is a way that entertainment can bring a message to encourage people to donate their organs. Pretty sad if it is one CBS market dictating what they will broadcast! Please stop and think… Read more »
This is one of the best shows on TV !!! I do not think CBS did enough to advertise it.
It is so much better than all of the reality shows airing. CBS has some of the best shows on TV at this time, so please do not start cancelling the shows that are worth watching.
We loved Three Rivers last fall. I am thrilled to watch the five remaining episodes this June. Please CBS, pay attention, this was not a show to cancel. It was finally a medical show that was entertaining and had an important message to help education the general public…not just another soap opera. My husband is now going on year two of the transplant list. Please keep Three Rivers on the air to help the general public understand all aspects of organ transplantation. Could it possibly help increase the donor list?
I love this show. I was so glad to see that it was coming back on the air. Unfortunately, the CBS affiliate in Houston, TX did not see fit to air. All they had were reruns of other shows. Come on Channel 11, (KHOU) get with it. Maybe it will be on next Sat.
keep Three Rivers on the air! It is one of the best medical dramas around.
I was so happy to see Three Rivers back…..and now you are going to cancel it! What is the matter with CBS? This is a good show not like some of the awful shows you keep on air. Give Three Rivers a decent time spot, a little publicity and then watch it take off.
my wife and I loved this show but it always seemed to follwo the amazing race show and it always cut into the three rivers show so didnt know when it was going to be on or not which really made her mad I think they should bring it back on primetime.
All the good shows manage to get cancelled. If there is no violence or sex, the don’t survive. So sad to see Three Rivers go.
so sad to hear it got cancelled – I’m watching a new episode right now on a Saturday night !
I love this new show!! I think I lost a few of the episodes, due to why I think maybe it did not do well! No advertising of the show, I just happened to come upon it last year! And fell in love with it, you can’t help but hold on to the edge of your seat! Looks like the “donor” associations would want to promote the show, my family has always agreed to doing this ourselves if the need were to come about and we were able to be blessed with being a donor, but what about the people… Read more »
I love three rivers. Extremely dissapointed that they cancelled it!
