To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I really liked Three Rivers and wondered what happened to it. I would really like to see the rest of the episodes, and would have liked another season also.
I think Monday night football hurts all the sunday evening shows. you never know for sure what time they will start. When they start late many miss them as they have to work early the next day and can’t stay up to watch the whole episonde of the one in the 10pm slot especially
Personally I liked 3 Rivers, I’m sad to see it gone.
I thought Three Rivers was a well done show. I don’t know who runs the networks but really…we get reruns of shows when we can at least have a good new show..what’s wrong with that picture?
Put it on opposite Jay Leno (who isn’t doing well). Why not try it on a weeknight rather than on Sunday. Also since a few weeks it didn’t even come on until late because 60 minutes started late due to CBS Football ending late, alot of people probably went to bed early and missed both Three Rivers and Cold Case.
I’m so over these networks and their constant parade of uncommitted efforts with their T.V. series. I agree Iwould rather watch and hope that Three Rivers would come together as a better show then to see repeats of repeats. I’ve decided to boycott any new t.v series by the networks because if they aren’t committed to their T.V series why should I. I can watch repeats on cable show and pick my own time to watch them.
I am disappointed that they are cancelling the show. I liked the show very much and I think the only problem it had was being on cbs after Cold Case because of the time because of football games during the day would always push the time to a later time and you could never keep track of when it was on. CBS never aired anything on time hence I missed many many Cold Case episodes because of the programs never running on time. It irks me every Sunday that CBS can’t air regular shows at the appointed time and that… Read more »
Please bring back Three Rivers and give it another chance. Bring it to another station like TNT or TBS if CBS doesn’t want it or it conflicts with Cold Case and Sunday Night Football and Amazing Race…. Shows that are on those channels seem to last. I would make sure to put my son to bed “on time” on Sundays just so I can watch Three Rivers. I think it hurt because of Sunday Night Football and The Amazing Race. Even if you it was DVR’d you still couldn’t tell which show you were really taping, which happened to me… Read more »
I personally loved the show and am sad to see it gone. I did not find anything wrong with the show.
bring back 3 rivers, it’s better than re runs so what if only a million people watch it doesn’t the minority count
Whether Sunday night football is to blame or not, I think Three Rivers was destined to flop, namely because of the casting. While, indivually, Alex O’Laughlin, Kate Moennig, Alfre Woodard etc, are great actors that would, under normal circumstances, attract lots of loyal fans… together, they just had no chemistry on screen. Add to that the fact that the casting execs of this show managed to cast three people who are almost impossible to buy as doctors, let alone the best of the best of the best, Three Rivers really didn’t stand a chance. Too many story lines going on… Read more »
My family really, really liked Three Rivers, but with the Football games taking priority, the show always came on so late. I hung in because I wanted to see the next episode, but for most people who have to be at work on Monday, the often, hour plus delay was too much.
Hey CBS, way to good, kill off all your good shows and we’ll all tune into NBC.
One last comment, Nancy I totally agree with about Andy Rooney and his “whiney” 5 minutes.
I hope CBS Keeps Three Rivers. just change the day that it airs
Why do you take off all the good shows like Moonlight and then Three Rivers. Some people are really getting tired of all the realty shows on tv. Always had trouble finding when Three Rivers was on due to the game on Sundays also not everyone watches football or the great race. Bring back Three Rivers
Grrrr!!! its because of Sunday night football!!! This was a excellent show, often pre-emptied for games that ran long!!! I am so disgusted at the fact that no other time slots were really tried!!! What next!!!
Football and being a decent show to watch. CBS should rethink this show. It was great and deserves a second chance. How about Wednesday or Monday, the situation comedys are a mess, never watch any of them
Haven’t the networks gotten the word YET! Most of their viewers are ON-LINE! I rarely get to watch any show at its “regularly scheduled time” anymore. I watch all my shows, almost exclusively, online these days. My schedule just doesn’t sync with the networks these days and when I can watch online at my leisure, why not? O, and if the networks are still slow enough to listen to Nielson ratings for their info on how many are actually watching – well, they never will get it right then because Nielson only takes your info if you say you watched… Read more »
