Rittenhouse has won this round, so who’s going to save Rufus? NBC has cancelled its Timeless TV show after two seasons and a hard-fought campaign by fans and the writers alike. The second season ended on a heart-stopping cliffhanger, which is frustrating for fans, but reportedly, there are talks of a two-hour movie to wrap things up. Will it happen? Stay tuned.
An NBC time-travel drama from Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan, Timeless stars Matt Lanter, Abigail Spencer, Goran Višnjić, Malcolm Barrett, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey, and Claudia Doumit. As the Time Team, their mission is to prevent the destruction of our world as we know it. Susanna Thompson, Annie Wersching, and Michael Rady recur in season two as members of the nemesis organization, Rittenhouse.
Timeless: A Look at the Ratings
The second season of Timeless averaged a 0.61 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.52 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 44% and 45%, respectively. Find out how Timeless stacks up against other NBC TV shows.
Time’s up for Timeless: NBC has officially passed on making a third season of the show, EW has learned.
The cult-favorite time-travel drama has been axed by the network after a lengthy decision-making process in which the network and studio Sony Pictures Television tried to find a financially agreeable path to renew the show for weeks.
Thursday’s news will surely be disappointing for fans because the season 2 finale ended on a major cliffhanger. All may not be lost, however: Sources say there are discussions about wrapping things up in a two-hour movie, but those talks have been going on for awhile and it’s unclear if anything will come of them.
What do you think? Will you watch a movie to wrap up the storyline? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed Timeless for season three? Sound off in the comments.
I can’t believe this got cancelled. I thought they would renew with all the support from fans. I don’t understand why everything good gets cancelled but they keep stupid shows!! I really hope they make a movie to wrap up the show, or another channel picks up the show!!!
So sorry, I had high hopes for this series. I just loved trying to figure out what was coming next!! Movie might help and I’ll watch; but not the same as looking forward to a new episode every week.
Nbc will feel the heat when they lose alot of viewers.
And they will!! Rufus is dead, Not a great ending for a great show! ! Really NBC How can you end things like that??
I WOULD DEFINITELY WATCH A TWO-HOUR MOVIE TO WRAP UP TIMELESS!!! The show is great as is the phenomenal cast!!! Can’t wait to see the movie!!!
NBC = No Broadcasting Commonsense! Timeless had to be on that network! The same one that cancelled the even better but similar Journeyman! Why do they keep picking up these types of shows if they know they’ll bail on them from their AWFUL network? Please leave SyFy and time travel to any other network!
NBC disgusts me. Timeless was the only show on their sorry network that we watched. I hope Netflix or another network with some common sense picks it up. I apologize to the actors, writers, and crew on the show for the total lack of stupidity of the network.
It is a shame, but some of the comments are surprising. NBC, like other broadcasters are a business and like a business their aim is to make money. Part of this equation is how much they can charge advertisers. And this charge is based on ratings. If the ratings had been higher, NBC could have charged the advertisers more per episode. Or obtain concession from the maker of the show. Ultimately they must have decided there was more loss than win in renewing another season. And this is the reason there are so many reality shows. Cheap to make and… Read more »
I didn’t watch this show but I know what it’s like to be disappointed by them being cancelled…..so when there no more shows for you to watch I guess you won’t mind because it’s how the business goes
I understand that this is the reality. This is also why it is ridiculous to pay $150 a month for cable to access 90-100 channels that no one watches. People should pay for only the shows they watch every month, say $1.00 per program. You might still pay $100 to $150 a month, but the shows that REALLY get no audience, rather than the shows that the Nielsen households don’t watch, can be axed. Goodbye to the Zany Housewives of Gary, Indiana, the Most Mediocre Talent West of the Mississippi & The Bachelotte’s Toothless Cousin’s Latest Date.
Cancelling Timeless is very disappointing news. It was the best show on TV. What can NBC be thinking. It should be all about the fans and what they want to watch. I would be interested in a movie to wrap things up but I would rather they continue the series so the story can continue and I can watch on a weekly basis. I am very disappointed in NBC and will make it a point not to watch the NBC network any longer.
Sorry to see it happen but I guess I’m not too surprised by it.
Too bad. In two short years this show has quickly become an all-time favorite for me. But I understand that it has to be financially feasible to make. I would totally watch a follow up movie, but I would rather have more seasons. Does anyone know why they aren’t trying to get it picked up by another network, cable channel, or even streaming service? I would think that some of those may have slightly different priorities or resources than NBC, which may make it more possible, especially considering the show has a dedicated fan base that is guaranteed to watch.
As soon as something unique comes along, it’s cancelled! This ridiculous decision is really disappointing.
Corporate NBC should NOT be the only
Determining Factor!!!
After all, Isn’t it about what Fans and viewers decision if to even turn NBC on
You would think it’s about what we want to war to watch!!! I guess not!°
I hate all of these reality shows. So I will turn to Netflix and watch.
They know you won’t really leave NBC because the only fans with real guts left after Buffalo Bill was cancelled.
#SaveRufus
We fans NEED at least a great send up.
I really hope they make the movie.
And really, it is a shame that a show as good as #Timeless gets axed while others thrive.
Shame, shame, shame…
I would definitely watch a movie. I never gave up on the show before and I won’t now, even though it is not the outcome I wanted. I want to see where our Time Team ends up.
I really liked the show. I liked seeing where they were going each week. Soon on tv there are only ridiculous reality show, I will not be watching.
