Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

My 2nd comment . . . . . NBC: Why don’t you take one night away from Jay Leno (who is no better than he was on ‘The Tonight Show’), and plug this show into that time slot? You idiots have no idea what the viewing public wants to see, otherwise you’d cancel Leno and the reality shows!!!
Great show! I was very disappointed it was canceled. Great actors & entertainment, a lot better than Mercy! I’m with Jason, makes me want to quit watching NBC.
I’m really disappointed to hear this – I really enjoyed Trauma!
this sucks, new shows deserve a chance. the cast was great and i am not one of those people that watch tv shows and Trauma was great, perhaps i will not watch your other programs
I can not believe another great show has been cancelled. I love Trauma and I loved The Cleaner and I love Southland…(At least one of these networks finally got some sense and brought it back) It is amazing to me that Americans would rather watch trashy reality shows instead of good entertaining shows like these that have been cancelled. It really makes me sick on a daily basis to look at the TV line up. I for one, have much better things to do with my time than watch people air their nasty laundry for all to see. WHO CARES????
Please bring back trauma! It is awesome , one of the best shows in a long while. I couldn’t wait until it came on every week! It isuch better than the silly show that you replaced it with that I definitely won’t be watching. I bet I not the only viewer that you will lose. Bring trauma back, please!!!!!
I can’t believe NBC is cancelling this great show and putting on more Law And Order !!! Who do they think watches that ??? I’m 72 and and was sick of that show a long time ago. I thought Rabbit and Nancy were bringing the show together and NBC is nuts !!!
dumb dumb dumb. i am so tired of figuring out which are the quality shows on t.v., only to have some hatchetman/woman snatch it off the air. these programs are never given any time to catch on. even “cheers” started slowly. “trauma” is a great show. i hate that they’ve cancelled it, and i’m beginning to think that the networks deserve the throngs of people leaving network programming to watch cable.
What? Canceled? You have got to be kidding! This is a great show. Please don’t leave me with nothing to watch but inane reality shows!!!!
When a very interesting show with complex characters and interesting, intertwined plots come along, some executive is just waiting in the sidelines to cease production. For those of us who do not believe reality shows are anywhere based on reality, a show like Trauma gives us hope that there can still be quality programming. Reverse the cancellation and continue the show.
To get ratings, maybe name it “True Actors of Trauma Fight The Battleo f the Three-Hundred Pound Paunch.” Ratings would soar, or should I say, expand and explode in fatty tissue drama.
Please keep Trauma on the air. I much prefer it over Mercy which I as a nurse myself I had hoped to get into, but stopped watching after a few episodes. Trauma has great storylines and medical drama. Quit bringing in the stupid reality shows and keep Trauma around!
I’m very disappointed this show has been canceled! This was an amazing show, with great stories, and a wonderful cast! Big mistake canceling it! There are other shows that don’t deserve the slot! BRING IT BACK PLEASE!!
Every time a good show comes along,it always seems to get cancelled. I have watched from the first episode and I really love it. The cast is one of the best I have seen. Please reconsider. A very disappointed fan.
I love that show, its one of the best shows on tv, i’m very disapointed that they canceled the show, change the time and try it again….
Great show, worth keeping . Maybe change time slot and get ride of gay drama (not there’s anything wrong with that).
We love the show! It is action packed and a great story line! Please reconsider your decision!! Every Tuesday it is a big discussion at my work place! We all look forward to seeing the show!!
