Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I cannot believe that NBC canceled this show! I am in EMS, and can say that everyone that I know watches this show… I am very disappointed… You need to give it a chance… There are plenty other shows that could be taken off…. PLEASE put it back on the air…
I am extremely disappointed that the show got cancelled. My husband has a really tight schedule so we would always look foward to Mondays to enjoy the show together:(
This is an awful shame that this show is being cancelled. I love this new drama, as does my daughter. She is going to be so disappointed to find out that it will not be on anymore. Why doesn’t NBC give it more of a chance?
What got me about them canceling the show it wasn’t on that long to have enough viewing audience to check it out. When I caught it was only on for a couple of weeks and thats it. What was the executives saw it and didn’t care for it, if that is the case that is so bogus.
I think it is a real Trauma that Trauma was cancelled. I so looked forward to it on Monday evenings and while I am an extremely busy person due to work and school demands, I would record it and enjoy it when I had a little down time or I would catch it on NBC.com. Is there any chance that it will come back? This was an action packed show that really held my attention and right when I was trying to get my parents to start watching it, the show was cancelled. I am truly saddened.
This is truly unbelievable, why would you cancel a show of this quality. Come on NBC, stop with all the mistakes. Please keep this show on the air! Over the past three years your people have cancelled some of the best shows ever viewed. Don’t continue to make mistakes.
I love this show. I am really disappointed that you cancelled it. I so much better than Mercy (which really stinks). Get rid of Leno and put it in a later time slot. You never give a new show a chance.
Shame on NBC no wonder their ratings are low. Trauma was a good show full of good
plots, actors with both drama and tender moments. Mercy is a piece of crab with people
pulling each other in rooms making out. Your choices are like your network low calliber
Agree also that Leno stinks in his prime time show, nothing new old hat.
Yall suck that was the only Tv series that my family and I ever watched thanks for ruining it for us back to HBO and Stars now we are done with regular Tv.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????? I can’t believe that the show “TRAMA” got cancelled!!!!!
I’m sooo mad at this. That was the best show. What in the hell is happening with cancelling these good shows? Three of my favorite shows got cancelled this year. SUCKS big time. The stuff that’s on TV now is CRAP!!!!
This is a shame. Trauma was one our favorite programs. It should have been given more of a chance!
