Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I certainly do not understand why NBC would cancel Trauma. Every week I look forward to this show, what is wrong with NBC. You get a great show on and then you cancel it????
Oh my gosh, I cannot believe Trauma has been canceled!! This was my FAVORITE show on television. Please please bring it back. The only reason it didn’t do well is the stupid time slot……nothing can compete with Monday Night Football.
Bring it back on another night ……..JUST BRING IT BACK!.
We always taped it because we too watch football in this house. This show is so much better than Mercy.
great show much too good to cancel nothing else worth waqtching on nbc
It has been a long time since I liked a show as much as Trauma. I will really miss it.
OMG! I am ruined by hearing this news. This sitcom is actioned packed and had me on edge for the whole full hour! WHY??????????????? Please consider bringing it back on! I would also look forward to watching it and would even reschedule my second job around watching it.. 🙁
i, too, agree with the sentiment of everyone who has commented. i am a 38 year old woman who hasn’t watched tv regularly since the cosby’s. it is monday and i just finished watching Jennifer Hudson’s Christmas special. As soon as it was over, I flipped to NBC to see the “Law and Order” title; so here i am online trying to find out if “Trauma” was moved to another time or another channel only to learn that it has been canceled? wow.
wow nbc!!!!!……….u really know how to screw things up……i cant stand watching tv shows today cause they are dumb as hell……..especially the reality shows……but right when you ACTUALLY get a good show on with ALL GREAT actors together you go and throw away a show like this…….WOW……..think i will stick to watching abc or cbs or something……..maybe u should of let abc or cbs have this show Trauma…….VERY DISSAPOINTED in you guys cancelling Trauma!
I’m an so disappointed that this show was cancelled. I always looked forward to watching it in monday nights. NBC yet again canceling an awesome show instead of canceling sing off. In watching it now and its stupid. Oh let’s what people make fools of themselves. Being trauma back. With being a medical student u live shows like this. So bring it back n get rid of Leno n sing off.
I really love this show. I can’ t believe they are going to cancel the show.
Trauma is a great show. I would always look forward to monday night so I could watch the new episode. I agree with the others, take off that stupid show mercy and put trauma back on. Trauma was packed with lots of action and was a great show. Give trauma mercy’s spot or jay lenos spot, Trauma needs to be back on air. You are ******** for cancelling such a great show.
I love this show. As usual the TV powers that be have caved to the almighty dollar instead of giving the show a chance.
NBC, why do you keep canceling all the good show that you start. You get us all hooked and then all of a sudden my DVR is not recording my shows. Trauma is a fantastic drama that exceeds any season of ER. What a surprise though NBC canceling another show. Why not watch another crappy reality show like Sing Off or lets keep Jay Leno on five nights a week. By the way Leno is horrible! NBC lets get it together!! Disappointing.
Why would you cancel this show? I enjoyed watching this show. I also was in the EMS service. Give the cast of Trauma a chance !!!! I feel that it was a very entertaining show. Please bring put it back on the air…….
Wow! I am so disappointed. This is an awesome show. What a mistake NBC is making.
How sad that they canceled this show. It seems like the stations keep mindless programming on and the shows that have a decent storyline and make sense they cancel! They need to give it time to catch on. Everyone I know watched this show and enjoyed it. PLEASE bring back this show!
