Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

ARE YOU ALL CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS THAT I HAVE EVER WATCHED. IF THIS IS CANCELED, THIS WILL BE A BIG MISTAKE. THE CHARACTERS ARE GREAT AND I LOVE THE STORY LINE. THIS WAS SO BELIEVABLE!!!!!!! JUST LIKE REAL LIFE. BIG, BIG, BIG MISTAKE
I am really disappointed that the show was cancelled. While the show is a drama and not all of what is done on the the show is realistic, it is immensely entertaining. I work as an EMT and have recently had to take a leave due to an injury, and this show is the closest thing on television that there is to the real thing. It keeps me going! I loved it from the very beginning and want it back!
My husband and I love the show and are sorry for the decision to cancel. Unfortunately, with 2 other medical shows in competition, it makes it difficult to keep all three.
Trauma is one of our favorite shows. But as demonstrated with Jericho if a network thinks you don’t have enough viewers there is not much you can do.
Seems like they wait until the show gets going good and everyone gets into it then cancel it.
I really think because it was a good show with good actors and great story line they decided it was not as good as some reality crap like Jon and Kate, GARBAGE so they got rid of it, but if enough of us complain then it could be brought back , they revived CHUCK because enough people complained!!!!
I think it is absolutely crazy to cancel Trauma. I love the show more than any other medical show on TV. Since the first airing of the show I was hooked. I am so upset by this!
very pissed trama was cancelled , i enjoyed the show and especially the cast…
unreal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like trauma. The characters were believable, as were the plots. The show is not strained and certainly deserves consideration over Mercy. The series should be re-instated!
This show is great. I look forward every Mon. to watch a show that is realistic and showes what these people do daily and get little reconision for their work. I hope they reconsider cancelling.
Just my luck every time a new show comes on that I like it gets canceled most of all of the other show on t v is not worth watching I think I will stop watching t.v.
P.S.
I would like to try to be in pitcher show.
I dont like alot of shows they have on TV
But I Knew When This Show PreViews I knew I Would LOVE IT
And from the Start I did
I hate to see it go
i’m shocked that trauma was canceled. whomever gave the rating stats to it’s network got it wrong. i thought that i paid dish network fees for great programming like trauma. now i’m left with the remaining trash on the networks.
