Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I’m so disappointed to hear that Trauma is cancelled. I loved that show and I loved all the characters in it. I am a big TV watcher and I often have to choose what I want to watch more every night, but when Trauma was on nothing else mattered, I was in front of the TV. I hate that it won’t be on this season. NBC PLEASE BRING BACK TRAUMA…I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me and my kids love trauma and mercy and I am going to school for nursing school and can tell you that we all watched the shows and very much enjoyed them. I want them to continue aring new shows.
A common thread of responses that is so true. NBC truly does cancel good shows with potential and that makes people loose hope in the network. Maybe ABC or FOX should take on Trauma so it can thrive and not be cancelled after one season. What a great show it was becoming!
Are you kidding me?! What’s wrong with you NBC! Trauma is a great show! I wouldn’t be surprise you idiots replace it with reality BS tv!
>= / upset with NBC once AGAINNNNNN!
I am very dissapointed with the cancelation of Trauma!!! BRING IT BACK!!!!!!
I cannot believe they leave shows on forever like the Simpsons or Southpark and cancel good shows like Trauma!!!! I do not feel that the Simpsons or Southpark are appropriate shows and Trauma was an excellent show. Why do they constantly cancel the good shows? Stupid if you ask me.
i have just got into this show, and it is a great show do not take this show off give it one more change, keep it going. i thing its just as good as (thirth watch) was,and they took that off the air.
Are you kidding me. Bring it back. The people at NBC are the stupidest people ever. I am so mad that the dumbasses cancelled the show. What the hell is next.
To no surprise NBC cancells another good show. Im so sick of this. Im about to stop watching the network all together. Trauma has been one of their better shows. Well I just hope someone of higher up in the company realizes what they are doing and how many people they will lose to their network ignorance. Stop canceling the good shows and get rid of some of the stupid ones. ER gone Trauma gone whats left? Mercy woohoo please!!! What a joke!!!!
that is so stupid that show was amazing they should stop the others and play this…im done watching that channel
I am really upset about the cancelling. It was a really good show and should be kept on.
like the show very much and very disappointed that is gone. My loss and hope that it can be replaced.
Totally disappointed that they cancelled this show. I was wondering when it would come back on again. I loved the exciting adrenaline rush from medical shows, and this one REALLY was an awesome show. NBC really flubbed up on cancelling this one. I used to watch this on the off-season of Grey’s, and although that is one of my favorte shows — I thought had more excitement lately than Grey’s had in its past few episodes … what a let down, NBC!!
I loved this show-I was really looking forward to the new season. I can’t stand how shows get cancelled especially when they are awesome shows.
I think they made a horrible choice in cancelling this show Trauma was my favorite show! Mercy should have been cancelled. I watched the first couple episodes of that and couldn’t watch anymore it got boring! But Trauma was always exciting! I will say again HORRIBLE choice.
