Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

They need to keep the show on air. I just watch all of the first season i couldnt stop watching it . It kept me wondering what was going to happen next. It has been a long time sence a tv show has done that.
I am very upset that this show was cancelled! I was just looking online to see when it would premiere for 2010 & couldnt find it on there anywhere. This is an awesome show & it is one of my absolute favorites!!! The story line & actors are great & they done an amazing job! I just cant understand why all the great shows are getting cancelled? “Trauma” is def. way better than ER ever thought to be!!! I hope they decide to bring it back, as my husband & I were so used to watching it every week &… Read more »

We LOVED Truama….it was one of our favorite shows and when I found it was ending I was upset! Why are all the good shows being cancelled after their first season….Like Wild Roses…..Gosh they bring in a great show and leave us high and dry! No wonder I don’t watch much tv anymore!!
This SUCKS! I loved Trauma! NBC has a bad habit of cancelling great shows!
i think that was my favorite trauma show ever, it was a huge mistake to take it away.
Canceling Trauma was a big mistake. The show is great!!!
I freaking loved that show! I was so crushed to find out that the show was cancelled. It didn’t really end well and I really think that NBC made a mistake.
I don’t know what these stations are thinking. Cancle Trauma is a bad idea, and I wish they would bring it back.
They did the same thing with Moonlight, and look at the vampire show outbreak there is now. That show was better than Vampire Diaries, True blood put together…
When will they learn to listen to the fans and give theses shows second chances.
I loved the show Trauma! Why would you cancel such a great show. At least give it a chance. I was always a big fan of ER and that was on for 15 years! I LOVED the fact that you were coming out with Trauma. I figured that ER was so great Trauma has to be just as good. And it was. The very first episode had me jumping and gasping because you didn’t know what was going to happen next. You people at NBC suck. Of course the ratings aren’t necessarily going to be steller right away it’s a… Read more »
I and my family are disappointed. I agree, with ER gone this one show was very close to it. Even my granddaughter, 7 yrs old, enjoyed watching some of the episodes. Another year with the same ole stuff on tv.
characters were great!!!!
This is LAME…why whenever an actual good show comes on the too rich for their own good network people have to cancel the show…LAME LAME LAME
If you plan on canceling the show then don’t put it on the air or heres a better idea take away lame soaps that are so fake…no ones life is really like that…or take away the stupid reality tv shows….thats not reality…you are paying those people to act like fools…use that money to keep this show on the air!!!!
Really. You’re gonna drop Trauma and keep Chuck. Once again the geniuses at NBC show why they are last and will stay last.
