One of the producers of the new V thinks there’s still a chance that TV show will be renewed for season three. On the show’s official Facebook page, Steve Pearlman wrote: “Despite what you read online, the ratings for V have been OK and the show has a chance of being renewed for a third season.” Is that really true?
For season one, V ended up averaging a 2.25 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 5.7 million average viewers. It was “on the bubble” but ended up being renewed for season two. ABC has a history of taking a chance on struggling freshman shows and decided to bet on this one over lower-rated FlashForward. Sometimes the network’s gambling pays off (Castle) but usually, it doesn’t (Samantha Who?, Better Off Ted, October Road, etc.).
After ABC ordered 13 episodes for season two, the network cut it back to 10 installments. That’s not a good sign but ABC execs supposedly felt they just wouldn’t need as many episodes because of the bevy of original programming they already have. Lots of this season’s new and returning shows haven’t even premiered yet because there’s no room on the schedule.
So far this season, V has been pretty consistent and has averaged a 2.0 in the demo and 6.02 million viewers. While that’s an increase in total viewers, that’s a drop in the key demo which is what really counts. V is currently the second-lowest rated scripted show on the network, just above Detroit 1-8-7 and just below No Ordinary Family.
So, Pearlman is indeed correct that a third season is still possible but, unless the ratings improve, it seems unlikely. ABC gave the series a chance last time and the risk hasn’t paid off for them so far. The ratings have dropped, not improved. If they’re going to take a gamble on a struggling show for next season it would make more sense to try another one.
What do you think? Will the V ratings improve? Will ABC give the series another chance — season three — or will it be cancelled?

V is terrible it shouldn’t have made it past even one season, let alone be considered for a third now, it’s glacially paced, the acting is awful, most of the cast couldn’t act their way out of a paper bag, and the effects are the worst ever seen on the small screen, it would be an act of mercy to cancel rather than renew this crap.
Totally agree with “Miami Mike ” JANE BADLER beautiful as ever i like the series hope that have a third season ..and will like to see also Faye Grant and Donovan as special guest star.
I love V. We need season 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The show rocks. It was just so long to wait for it to get satrted up again. Please keep the show on the air. ABC would be crazy not to keep it. I agree with the comments earlier. I want to watch the show on ITUNES and the internet.
V has sooooooo improved since it first aired and as a long standing V fan I’m so glad to see Jane Badler back on the screen. She’s beautiful and classy as ever. Last night’s show ROCKED. It seems like production standards are increasing and I hope the network keeps the show. We really need a cool show like this on TV. KEEP V ON THE AIR!!
Bring it back for season 3!
I like the new V. I was a fan of the old V and don’t feel this is a remake at all, but i do enjoy seeing Diana in the new show. Why is it that every time i start liking a new show they talk about taking it off the air? No ordinary family is a great show too. What will be left of this network if they take both of them?
What a fail of a remake of a classic Sci-fi movie and series. With the religious overtones now being put into the storyline, the show has gone from bad to worse. Get this nightmare off the air.
The show has no where to go. It can not keep going in the same direction. It is a 4 on a scale of 1-10.
The ratings for the show have dropped because ABC isn’t allowing the show to be broadcast on its website or Hulu. Last season, viewers were able to watch full episodes of V online. However this season, ABC announced on its website that unfortunately they are unable to broadcast the show on its website or Hulu. Therefore, the show has lost a lot of angry viewers who were devotely to this great show. If you read the comments that have been posted on the ABC V website, you will see that many viewers are boycotting V and ABC because the network… Read more »
It is such a shame that a good show is going to get chopped b/c of the way it’s being handled. For one thing, there was too much of a hiatus. For another, its return wasn’t promoted well. I completely forgot about it until of friend of mine asked me if I watch it. I didn’t get to see the return of season 2 b/c I was on vacation. Imagine my disappointment when I tried to catch up on it by watching it online, only to see that it wasn’t available. I love that show. I look forward to it… Read more »
V is great- the only problem it has is it moves to slow in some areas- the writers should have already let more visitors get caught “fixing their faces” or just having a little snack- like anna had all those eggs- How?- or there’s not enough people dissapearing- It really is a great show- It really could be around with high viewer response-(toys?) You just need to have some more imagination added to the show-Don’t get rid of a good show- maybe check the enthusiasm of the people working on it-Keep it going-Eat a bug and concentrate!!!
For once, it’s not ABC fault that V is not online.
Warner Bros. produces the show and this season for some reason is not letting the network air the show online. The did the same thing with Smallville(CW) and Big Bang Theory(CBS) in previous seasons.
I REALLY LIKE THIS SHOW, ITS DIFFERENT AND INTERESTING, WITH ALL SHOWS THE WRITERS AND PRODUCERS JUST NEED TO HAVE A PLAN WITH WHERE IT WILL GO AND END, PERFECT EXAMPLE WAS BABYLON 5. SHOWS LIKE THIS CAN GET LOST, SUCH AS LOST, AND LOSE THEIR WAY. HAVE A PLAN, AND PUT IT TO PAPER FOR THE WHOLE SERIES, TIE UP THE LOOSE ENDS AND HAVE A HAPPY PRODUCTIVE JOURNEY. V IS A KEEPER, JUST KEEP IT ON TRACK
The show has been great this season and I hope it gets a chance to continue. As Ben notes, it’s crazy that ABC does not have it online for people. How the heck do they expect it to attract new viewers? And what if a regular viewer’s Tivo goes out?
I agree, I love V and I love Fringe. WTF is up with not being able to watch V online? I have to download it else where to see. I hope they understand that more and more people don’t watch “cable” tv and watch more tv on the web like me. Not letting it be available by legal means is just disappointing for a show that is struggling. COME ONE KEEP IT!
