Hung: Cancelled by HBO; No Season Four

HungRay Drecker may be very popular with the ladies but HBO doesn’t want a fourth season of his TV series. The pay-for-view channel has cancelled Hung after 30 episodes and three seasons on the air.

Hung stars Thomas Jane as a struggling Detroit high school baseball coach and divorced father. He resorts to male prostitution to take advantage of his natural “endowments.” The show’s cast includes Jane Adams, Anne Heche, Eddie Jemison, Rebecca Creskoff, Gregg Henry, Charlie Saxton, and Sianoa Smit-McPhee.

This past season, Hung averaged a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.02 million viewers. That’s way down from last season (1.3 in the demo with 2.46 million), which had declined from the 2009 numbers.

The defacto series finale of Hung aired on December 4th and attracted just a 0.4 rating and 930,000 viewers.

HBO has also cancelled Bored to Death and How to Make It in America but has chosen to renew Enlightened, the newest and lowest-rated of the four.

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Hung has been cancelled, that there won’t be a fourth season?

We just switched cable companies, and signed up for service where HBO is included in the package. I am disappointed that Hung was cancelled. It’s a really great comedy-drama show. I was searching desperately to see when the next will air, then started to search internet for episodes that I didn’t see on HBO in the last month or so. Audience views probably decreased because of the economy – many people lost homes, and of course cannot afford paid channel as HBO, or the package that includes this channel. If the cast read this, know that their acting is very much admired, that they were a part of a great TV series, and I hope they are doing great things.

My husband & I just got cable ‘on demand’ and started watching Hung. And actually got really hooked.. We finished 3 seasons in 3 days. And yet disappointed to hear that the show was completely canceled!! Such a shame. Now what are we going to watch.. Plus I love me some Thomas Jane

Obviously keeping shows that are intersting, that have more vewers are not what HBO does any longer. You cancelled Hung, Board to Death, without warning ….both of these had better ratings, BETTER WRITING; BETTER ACTing. So what would be a reason to keep a shitty shows, read the comments about how veep writing, & girls who watches this??? Its less the half of Hung biggest…There is no story here. CURB YOUR E. WORST SHOW EVER, but you keep bringing it back. WHY? It was not a good show ever, obviously you are not concerned with your customer base. I liked your edgy takes on stories. I wasnt alone, by stats a lot were pissed off at choice to cancel. Are you finanially unable to produce good shows?? I would much rather see 5 interesting series then 20 SUCKY ONES!! And just getting an emmy is not impressive…You to send them in yourself HBO>>>> being chosen in some instance maybe you are the only one who summitted in a perticular category. WOW AND You Won. NOT IMPRESSIVE. VEEP SECOND WORST ONLY AFTER CURB. HOW many YEARS WILL YOU FORCE BAD PAID TV ON US?? NETFLIX DOESNT HAVE A CHANNEL BUT THEY HAVE BETTER EDGY INTERESTING SERIES. AND ARE BEATING YOU. Shame on you. THESE STATS WERE ALL FOUND ON THE NET & WERE PROVIDED BY YOUR COMPANY. Dont say girls is good SHOW LOOK AROUND AT THE STATS>>>>Do Watch it.??

I am also very disappointed. I still have hope that with enough fan fair, they will bring this show back. A story about a guy using his penis as an asset. He is a true G. It is also a story about struggle. Real people in Detroit. Most shows on television are so Fluffy and fake. Shahs of Sunset, ect. Most Arabs are not living like that. Most people in The United States make $30,000 per year. Where do they live? How do they survive? Hats off the Hung and its cast!

True Blood “jumped the shark” already with pompous vampires and everyone some kind of supernatura “thing” now. Boring and getting unwatchable. Hungvwas still interesting and funny. Storyline was coming along. But look at what happened to Deadwood. No proper end. Network tv mostly trys to do a finale for a multi season show. Screwed pooch on this one.
