Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip: NBC Drama to Return!

Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford in Studio 60 on the Sunset StripAfter a three month absence, NBC will return the ratings-challenged Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip to primetime on Thursday May 24th at 10pm. The show has been M.I.A. since February 19th when the network pulled it a week earlier than planned to kick off the premiere of The Black Donnellys (which itself, six episodes later, was kicked off the schedule).

It will be interesting to see how well the series performs in the Thursday night timeslot. When NBC announced their schedule a year ago, Studio 60 was scheduled to air at 9pm as a lead-in to ER. The peacock network rewrote their schedule when ABC announced Grey’s Anatomy would be in that timeslot as well.

NBC hasn’t said how long Studio 60 will remain on the air. There are six unaired episodes left in the season and I suspect, because they were expensive to produce, NBC will air them all.

Does this bode well for a second season? Not really. The May sweeps period ends on May 23rd this year and NBC will have already announced their schedule for the 2007-08 season. Studio 60’s fate will likely already have been decided by the time it returns. Stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

Studio 60 is really the best show on TV–I can’t believe the networks would cancel such an incredible show. When you see all the crap that remains on the air, it really makes you wonder what they could possibly be thinking. Pleeeease bring it back!

Thanks NBC – just one more of your brilliant ideas intended to push us into abandoning network television altogether. Perhaps you should adopt a new rating code – “tvstupid 13″ – adults prohibited from watching.

Anything Mr Sorkin turns his hand to is awesome – WTF was the network thinking when they canned this show? Twots

PLEASE BRING BACK STUDIO 60. It wasn’t given a chance to build up an audience. Most people I know don’t really get into shows until the second season and then they go back and buy the boxset of the first season. It seems a pity to stop it before it had a chance to take off. It was funny, witty and thought provoking. Please reconsider.

Not since the second season of (24) have i found a show worth staying up late for. Studio 60 was it. It was the real deal. I watched it by accident but was hooked from day one. The holiday episode featuring the musicians from New Orleans blew me away. What great characters…Jorden, Matthew Perry, D.L. Hugley, and Ed Asner for God sakes! What an ensemble. C’mon NBC. Get it together.

I am SO sad and angry. Finally an intelligent comedy/drama worth watching is on the TV and what do NBC do? Cancel it!?! What the Hell I LOVE this show and will not enjoy thursday nights again. This is the best TV show i have ever seen. Much better than Lost and Heroes!

I will be so sorry to see it go. I am a 15 year old girl from england and nobody of my age watches it. The storyline between Matt and Harriet is great. They show a little later over here in England than what they do over there so we’re only half way through the 2nd series. I think the show is one of the best on TV and I wish, if it did get cancelled in America, that they would make episodes just for England. Matthew Perry is by far the best actor around and I would be so sad if he wasn’t on TV. Keep it broadcast, not only for American but for the English too!!!

How sad that truly one of the most intelligent shows on the air in the past several years has been canceled. Why is it that the only successful shows like Smarter than a 5th Grader, Deal or No Deal or Price is Right, all glorify the stupid and greedy? Aaron Sorkin, thank you for showing that someone can still write wonderful stories and plots for TV.

I would give a body part to see another series of this show. Dont understand how it got bad ratings, excellent programme, one of my favourites of all time.
