This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

We love this show and would be very disappointed if it were canceled.
This show is excellent, and I truly don’t understand why it is even being considered for cancellation. I have asked people at work if they like it, and many haven’t heard of it. While I do spread the word, I think many others just aren’t aware of the show. Please promote the show more – give it a chance. The first season of Cheers also struggled, and with some time and development, look where it ended.
Shame on you, CBS. A Gifted Man is why I watched tv on Friday nites. And now you’re going to take it away. Shame, shame!
Love this show, never miss it.
I will miss this show terribly. I’ve talked to several of my friends about it and they hadn’t even heard of it. It was promoted very little here where I live. I really look forward to it every week. Patrick Wilson does a very credible job as a doctor. I think it has been well casted. Their is great diversity in the cast. Please ,please, please renew this show!
I think the program should be renewed. Many people are only now catching on to the program. I found “A Gifted Man” by accident several weeks after it premiered.
I know a 12 yr. old blind girl who LOVES this show. This is the first time she has enjoyed any tv program other than game shows. She follows “A Gifted Man” every week and knows every character. I was unable to see last week’s show and she enthusiastically described the story lines in detail for me.
It’s the first drama series that has really caught my eye this. year. I LOVED it. I will hate it if it is canceled.
Gifted Man is one of the best shows on television,,,,, undercover boss is a reality show that is well produced but i worry about our society that drifts further and further toward audiences that will demand the reality of ever weirder escapist crap. oh well, everyone who doesn’t agree with me is always wrong, right? 🙂
We love the show.
I think a gifted man is a fantastic show. It wasjust starting to get great. The show had a slow start but CBS should keep it around. I believe a gifted man will be huge given a chance.
HUGE MISTAKE TO CANCEL!!! This is a great show…the actors/actresses are wonderful, story line very entertaining. I’m sick of having shows like “House” shoved down our throats…watching the humanly pleasant character of Michael Holt is a great change from the mean-spirited, surly, manipulative “Greg House”. ( I know that’s going off air…)
I like this show…wtheck…keep it on
for several years there has been very little to pick from in the night time lineup. there are what 20 csi series of some sort. finally, rejoice, a gifted man comes to our rescue with real stories and real people. stories about saving lives and living life, instead of murder, murder, murder. you cant imagine how disappointed i am to read that it will be cancelled after tonights episode. the actors and actresses were superb, the story lines were interesting and real, but most of all i could go to bed with a warm feeling instead of laying in bed… Read more »
We really love the Gifted Man and hope it will continue another season!
Thank you,
Elaine
I love the show! If they did cancel it hopefully NBC will pick it up! I will stop watching CBS if they cancel a gifted man!
