In season two, Jason — the hero of the Atlantis TV show — continues to discover new things about the fabled kingdom and himself. How long will this BBC America and BBC One series continue? Long enough for Jason to complete his journey? Will the show be cancelled or renewed for a third season? Stay tuned.
On Atlantis, a young man named Jason (Jack Donnelly) goes in search of his long-missing father and ends up on the shores of ancient Atlantis. He’s befriended by a pair of unlucky locals — former prize fighter Hercules (Mark Addy) and intellectual Pythagoras (Robert Emms) — as well as a revered Oracle (Juliet Stevenson). Others in the cast include Sarah Parish, Aiysha Hart, and Jemima Rooper.
Below are the show’s TV ratings, typically the best way to tell if the series will be cancelled or renewed. In this case, the show’s UK ratings may have a greater impact on the series’ future. These figures will be updated as the weeks progress.
1/26 update: BBC has cancelled Atlantis after two seasons.
Final season averages: 0.05 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 190,000 total viewers.

Cable ratings are typically released within a day or so of the show’s airing, except for in the case of weekends and holidays. They are sometimes harder to come by so there may be occasional delays or gaps.
What do you think? Do you still like the Atlantis TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
As a season closer, the final episode of Atlantis worked fantastically well – as it left you gasping for more. However, as a series closer, it didn’t work for the same reason. It’s a shame they didn’t go back into post-production to re-edit. Had they simply omitted Pasephae’s resurrection and Ariadne’s concerns about Medea – the show could have been wrapped up in a far more satisfying way. All the immediate threats would have been removed & the loose ends nicely tied up. Cut to Jason & Ariadne’s coronation procession, the camera pans up for one final look over CGI… Read more »
Atlantis was true family viewing (my two pre-teen kids loved it) though this series became more brutal and darker for 19:00 viewing. The ending? Shame that the crew could not have been allowed to re-write/re-shoot the ending. I recall in the first episode that Jason dived in 21st century sea only to resurface in the past, so perhaps the crew could have ended up with Jason diving into the dark waters only to surface back in the 21st century. Why? No idea. At least, Doctor Who will be able to use the costumes and sets for their own trip to… Read more »
Why in the world does BBC cancel good shows that people enjoy? This is the second series on the BBC network that was canceled that rated well. Copper was the other show. I am done with nonsense
The programme was cancelled because it was expensive to make.£1.4 million an episode to make.Average: Only 0.26 millions viewers.
IT WASN’T GIVEN A FAIR CHANCE. THE VIEWERS HERE IN AMERICA ARE JUST STARTING TO “DISCOVER” THIS SHOW. PLEASE WRITE IN YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT, SOMEONE JUST MIGHT “PICK IT UP”! WE CAN WEAVE OUR OWN GOOD MAGIC!!! THANKS!
Whyyyyyy?! *cryingeyesout* please renew. Tv here in America has become so awful I have only been watching BBC lately because everything else makes me sick. I feel like other channels destroy my brain cells even if I am not the one watching them. When I start to see BBC cancel wonderful shows like this it makes me lose faith in my last hope for televison. So much talent in writing these stories and good acting as well. My family and friends just may boycott media altogether if it becomes any worse.
Well said!!! If it was so expensive to make, why didn’t they spend the extra cash on advertising here in America? Like Jack 22 said above, only 0.26 million viewers. America is LARGE, and if marketed correctly, that figure would be worth it. I just happen to come upon it by accident, and fell in love! So much talent, love Mark Addy since The Full Monty, and the others are just as great. These actors are MAGIC together. They compliment the outstanding writing & production…COMPLETE entertainment! Keep writing your disappointment, maybe someone important will listen! THANKS!
Please join the petition of reversing the decision of bbc to cancel atlantis.
search: change.org, and sign the petition. Do a search under atlantis, & sign! Ask your friends & family. We need 500 signatures, and we’re half way there. Let’s weave some of our own GOOD MAGIC! Thanks!!!
Ok, how much money do I need to raise to get this going again? I can’t believe all the garbage on tv that has so much success while shows and movies that are actually good struggle this way. What is wrong with the masses? Stop supporting the brain rotting reality puke. Is there not a donation site for this type of media?
Finish the series, I am pissed off when a perfect show comes about the “Atlantis” 2013 etc and historically speaking should have given the show a chance!!!! with the search of ancient sites for the fabled city of antiquity.
Please, please Renew. Just love the programme. It is one of the only decent drama series on TV at the moment.
Here in the UK, our TV shows have a budget that probably wouldn’t cover one US TV star’s annual salary. The BBC has been cancelling a few expensive shows recently, money just doesn’t exist over here. The Musketeers is another big-budget adventure series that managed to survive due to BBC America and (IIRC) some European division of the BBC combining budgets. I don’t think Atlantis has been as popular as Merlin over here (it certainly lacks the, ahem, magic of Merlin), and it was probably an easy target for the firing squad. We seem to just be cancelling anything that’s… Read more »
Adam, don’t kid yourself. Believe me the networks here in America are no different than they are in the UK. Yes, we here in America let the market set prices on what is paid to actors but the networks don’t want to budget any other money. If it gets expensive, they just cancel it unless of course the ratings are out of this world. Sometimes that doesn’t matter. They would just assume to cancel it. I think the Musketeers survived because of BBCA and BBCONE. I don’t think we can take all the credit. BBCA purchased broadcasting rights from the… Read more »
It really is a big disappointment that it won’t be back. #saveatlantis It deserves to finished. I’ll just have to write a fanfiction as an ending! 🙁
This is sick! Seldom does a good show come around nowadays and it gets cancelled! RENEW!!! A good show such as this needs to see its series finally!!!
So disappointed to hear this show has been cancelled. We had been waiting patiently for the third season.
Renew!!!
Why??? I hope it returns, it’s an awesome show!! I want to see the ending!
I could not waitfor the new season and now that I just found out it was cancelled I am devastated. Is not right 🙁
it is a good show, why cancel it?
Why do all the good shows get cancelled. This show was great I think. Had some humour, action and drama. All thats left are Crime shows. Nothing much to watch anymore. I am sick of murder and crime .Can they not come up with something different to watch thats entertaining. Whats wrong with the new audiences these days do they not know whats a good show. Shame on you!
They should have marketed it to the game of thrones audience…. I was really enjoying it, and I think other fans of thrones would have too.
I agree I am a huge game of thrones fan and I really loved Atlantis also …where I am they cancelled season 2 on the 6th episode I didn’t even get to see how it ended I really wish they would bring it back.
