CBS cancelled its BrainDead TV show after just one season. Back in October, we reported the summer series’ cancellation was due to low ratings.
A comedic political thriller, BrainDead starred Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Danny Pino, Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, Nikki M. James, Johnny Ray Gill, Charlie Semine, and Jan Maxwell. Now TV Line reports co-creator Robert King admitted the show was probably not meant for CBS or any broadcast networks.
About the BrainDead TV Show Cancellation
BrainDead follows fresh-faced, Laurel Healy (Winstead), who has returned DC to work for her brother, Senator Luke Healy (Pino) on Capitol Hill. King created the Washington DC political comic-thriller with wife Michelle King.
Here’s more from King, via TV Line:
Speaking to reporters Monday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, exec producer Robert King was asked what lessons he learned in the wake of the offbeat political dramedy’s demise after just one season.
“Avoid satire,” he responded with a laugh. “It was a show that was trying to be as weird and anti-network as could be, and it was probably a mistake to do that on a network. But I loved that show.”
The one silver lining of BrainDead‘s cancellation: It freed up him and partner Michelle King to take on a larger role (as showrunners) in the forthcoming Good Wife spin-off The Good Fight.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the BrainDead TV show? Do you think it might have had a longer run on premium cable or a streaming platform? Sound off in the comments.
bring it back! bring it back!
We loved this show. We rarely watch network TV but we could not wait for each new episode. We recorded it and showed it to so many friends. They all loved it. We have described it to dozens of others. The script and the acting were top notch.
I loved this show and just rediscovered it on streaming! Please bring it back. I think it’s perfect for the world we live it today. We could all use a good laugh at ourselves and the other side! I’m begging!!!!!
I just binge watched the lone season of this series…excellent and probably even more relevant now than when it aired a few years ago. Not only is it intelligent satire with a fun, watchable sci-plot driver, it’s great instruction for the public on the procedures and workings of Congress. Great soundtrack too! Can someone please pick it up and run with it?
Bring Brain Dead to Netflix it’s fresh it’s funny
I admit to being an all things politics junkie, I follow politics as much as I can, globally and as such, given the latest major issue which closed the last few days of September in the good old US of A and is now an ‘impeachment investigation’ my mouth literally dropped open as I listened to and viewed Trump and his talking heads across media as they sought to spin what will most likely lead to his impeachment. The thing is that watching the latest case of miasma by Trump administration got me to thinking about a series I watched… Read more »
Very sorry to see Braindead cancelled. Everything about it was excellent! Finally something other than a crime fighting show on CBS, and they were too ignorant to realize what refreshing new entertainment they had. I guess no surprise there….
Can’t believe Netflix or Prime hasn’t picked up the remaining 3 seasons. Would love to see that happen!
Loved Brain Dead need mire ….please
We loved brain dead. !!!
Everyone in our house thought the rain dad was the best series we never seen. We waited impatiently every week for the next episode. Clever, thoughtful, funny in a strange way but completely enjoyable. Need more like it!
This was one of the best shows in YEARS. I’m still telling people about it, and still wishing I had more episodes to look forward to. It explained SO much about why Washington is the way it is! ; )
Loved the show. With today’s political climate in DC, seems like the show could actually be a reality. Didn’t think it could run very long, but would have liked another season or two.
Loved loved loved this show. Maybe it was too intellectual for main stream USA? ( how a “brain eating insect from outer space satire” could be considered intellectual is beyond me….but hey….look where we are now!). Netflix or Amazon Prime needs a show like this. America needs a show like this! It holds a mirror up to us and asks….”are YOU maybe a little too OTT with your political leanings”.
Loved this show. I really hope it gets picked up by another network.
Loved this show, when it first ran, but kept missing it because of my working late. Now I get to see it on your streaming site. It’s intelligent, well paced, great music, and absurdist. But then, I’m a fan of “The Rhinoceros” by Ionesco.
