Right on schedule, CBS has decided to ditch their new Friday night TV series, CHAOS, after just a few weeks on the air. The show stumbled in the ratings right from the start and never recovered. It’s no longer on the air but is it cancelled?
A dramatic comedy, CHAOS follows a small group of CIA misfit spies who make up the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services (CAOS). In addition to taking on threats to national security, they also must take on redtape and typical government bureaucracy. The TV series stars Freddy Rodriguez, Eric Close, James Murray, Tim Blake Nelson, Carmen Ejogo, Christina Cole, and Kurtwood Smith.
As detailed here, CHAOS debuted to a horrible 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.53 million viewers. That was quite a bit lower than the season average of Medium, a series that CBS cancelled because of poor ratings.
In the second week, CHAOS fell even lower to a 0.9 rating in the demo and 5.73 million viewers. Last Friday night, bumped up ever so slightly in the demo, to a 1.0 rating and 5.683 million. Unfortunately, that was far from enough of a gain to save the TV series.
CBS has pulled CHAOS from the schedule effective immediately. This week, a rerun of CSI: NY will fill the timeshot — and probably get better ratings. Next week, the previously scheduled The Royal Wedding: Modern Majesty will air. Then, beginning on May 6th, new episodes of Flashpoint will take over.
The network has 10 episodes of CHAOS left sitting on the shelf. CBS hasn’t said if there are any plans to release the unaired installments. Though CHAOS hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, there’s no way that they’ll be renewing it for a second season.
UPDATE: A statement from CBS indicates that the show will return to the schedule at some point in the future.
What do you think? Why did the TV show do so poorly, even by Friday night standards? Will you miss CHAOS?

I was a big fan of this show. It was one of the few I really looked forward to watching every week. I am not into the CSI or drama type shows but this one had comedy involved and lots of great actors. I really hope another network picks this show up. I saw rumors of TBS picking it up. Let’s hope someone does.
BRING BACK CHAOS! I love that show!
My wife & I loved this show. We are dissapointed that the so called reality shows continue & shows that make yoy think are cancelled. There is something wrong with that.
My husband and I love this show. Reality shows…we HATE them!
KEEP CHAOS!!!!!!
I, too, stumbled onto this show as it was NOT WELL ADVERTISED! a fun light family show that doesn’t offend but entertains… Goodness knows we need more of these, not fewer! and reality shows really STINK! I really really want to see this show kept on…and see ALL episodes. Global TV only has episodes 4 and 5 available….what happened to episodes 1-3 ?
Please consider making this show available for viewers who really really don’t want “reality” garbage shows…..
I am SOOOO disappointed CHAOS is potentially cancelled. I loved the HUMOR in the serious story-line. The actors were great and I have always enjoyed Eric Close. It was good to see he was back on t.v. after WITHOUT A TRACE. I hope that CBS hears about our zeal and gives CHAOS another try. Three weeks trial is too short for discovery of a larger viewership.
Chaos was a great show! We watched all episodes and frankly I can’t understand the managements decision to cancel the show. The content is enormously better than these stupid reality shows, that contaminate the schedules. Wake up and just put in a better time slot. You know Friday and Saturday is tricky. Sound like in house politics to me.
This was a great show – I know several other households who were watching it as we were. We were glad to see it reappear on Saturday nights and then suddenly it was gone again. I hope that the show will be renewed – what a shame a good, clean and funny show and they can’t even give it a decent chance.
My wife and I really like(d) CHOS. I still have a few of the last 3 viewings on my tivo. What I am not looking forward to is the PAM AM series and other like it
what is wrong with CBS? Chaos is the best show on TV as for as I am concerned. Very original, funny, romantic and clever. Certain shows that have been on forever and are so predictable are still on…but take off something as good as CHAOS is a misdeed to the fans. All of my family really look forward to the show. Think twice before you take it off. The whole cast fit so well and were right on the money!!!!!
My wife and I thought this show had great potential!! The cast had great chemistry. It was entertaining and very funny. You guys at CBS don’t have a clue!
my husband and i really liked the show. it was funny and action filled. the cast members were great and complimented each other. i can’t understand why it got poor ratings. i hate reality t.v. and look for action shows. i shure hope it comes back.
You have to kidding. Right? This show has so much potential. You and your ratings. Bring it back .
We loved this show. An hour of fun in this stressed out world.
I “stumbled” upon this show also and thought it was great!! How about getting rid of at least HALF OF THOSE STUPID REALITY SHOWS!!!!!! They suck…like Hoarded? What a waste!!!! Just a sick show. I have only seen promos and wonder why ANYONE would want to watch this!
