Right on schedule, CBS has decided to ditch their new Friday night TV series, CHAOS, after just a few weeks on the air. The show stumbled in the ratings right from the start and never recovered. It’s no longer on the air but is it cancelled?
A dramatic comedy, CHAOS follows a small group of CIA misfit spies who make up the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services (CAOS). In addition to taking on threats to national security, they also must take on redtape and typical government bureaucracy. The TV series stars Freddy Rodriguez, Eric Close, James Murray, Tim Blake Nelson, Carmen Ejogo, Christina Cole, and Kurtwood Smith.
As detailed here, CHAOS debuted to a horrible 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.53 million viewers. That was quite a bit lower than the season average of Medium, a series that CBS cancelled because of poor ratings.
In the second week, CHAOS fell even lower to a 0.9 rating in the demo and 5.73 million viewers. Last Friday night, bumped up ever so slightly in the demo, to a 1.0 rating and 5.683 million. Unfortunately, that was far from enough of a gain to save the TV series.
CBS has pulled CHAOS from the schedule effective immediately. This week, a rerun of CSI: NY will fill the timeshot — and probably get better ratings. Next week, the previously scheduled The Royal Wedding: Modern Majesty will air. Then, beginning on May 6th, new episodes of Flashpoint will take over.
The network has 10 episodes of CHAOS left sitting on the shelf. CBS hasn’t said if there are any plans to release the unaired installments. Though CHAOS hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, there’s no way that they’ll be renewing it for a second season.
UPDATE: A statement from CBS indicates that the show will return to the schedule at some point in the future.
What do you think? Why did the TV show do so poorly, even by Friday night standards? Will you miss CHAOS?

so waht if I mispelled some words, that is not as bad as taking CHAOS off the air…
I think that someone had thair head in the wrong place to cansel the show CHAOS, it was great. I set it up on tape the all of the shows just in case I was not home to watch it, I did not want to miss any of them, it is a real bummer that it ia no longer be on. A show that the whole family could watch and enjoy, not many of them left anymore that you need to wory about the languige or insesent seans… what are yon thinking, really , maby that is the problem, you… Read more »
Just got to watch and loved the show…..sorry to hear its gone :((((
Love the show. Hopefully it will return..maybe TNT or USA can pick it ip. I have no cle who does the ratings… they must be idiots.
ding leave this one and take off Letterman, or the Goodwife, or something else something else, I just enjoyed listening to the English guy and the nut that tried to act in charge and this was just good relaxing fun, I really wish you’d put it back on
??????????? who did this? where was their mind? As someone else said another good show down the drain and some stupid shows left on…I mean, I mean, nuts my entertainment for pure relaxation gone
It was by far my favorite show! The network did a horrible job promoting it and by the time I realized it was on it ended. I am a huge csi fan (all 3) but I’m getting tired of watching people die a 1000 different ways. Those shows have no substance. Chaos had great plot lines and fantastic acting. NBC screwed up!!
I am really sorry that this show has been cancelled. I only saw the last couple of shows and really enjoyed it. You really do not give new shows a enough time to get started. Like anything else it takes a while for people to change as we are creatures of habit.
I am writing from Timmins, On Canada, Shania’s home town. Hope you give this show another chance.
I only started watching CHAOS after the second episode – not good promotion by the network. Once I tried the show, I really enjoyed it and set it to record so I wouldn’t miss one. One of the few shows with a bit more subtle humour and whose female characters weren’t stupid. Those are probably the reasons it was cancelled
I’m wondering if it had better ratings in Canada than the US. We tend to like “quirky,” meaning not in-your-face stupid or prone to 10-year-old bum-humour
I liked the show and think it can make it just find the right time I watched everyone…
Chaos has a great cast and fun story lines! Bring it back
This TV show is great, and it was always bringing TV joy to my family,
Chaos is an excellent show, a great blend of artisic value.
Please bring it back.
good show
I can’t believe it was canceled. Another show I found that I liked and it’s over. I found the show entertaining verses all those so called reality shows I don’t bother watching. We had the DVR set to record all the shows and I got on-line today to find out when the next episode was going to air. Dang……………..
CBS has pulled so many good shows I can’t even start to count them anymore.
