Last night, NBC aired the finale of Crossing Lines. The season ended on a cliffhanger that has viewers itching for season two. Will the show be renewed, or will it be cancelled instead?
Crossing Lines follows a former NYPD officer who’s become addicted to morphine and ends up working as a trash collector for a carnival in the Netherlands. The International Criminal Court recognizes his worth and recruits him to help investigate crimes that cross international borders.
The show stars William Fichtner, Marc Lavoine, Gabriella Pession, Tom Wlaschiha, Moon Dailly, Richard Flood, and Donald Sutherland.
The police procedural series debuted June 23rd to a disappointing 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.38 million viewers. The first hour ranked a distant third in its timeslot, easily beaten by a rerun of FOX’s Family Guy and the debut of Whodunnit? on ABC.
Though viewership is lower in the summer months, the peaock network could not be happy with these numbers. The later weeks saw them get even worse. Over the course of the season, Crossing Lines has fallen as low as a 0.5 demo rating and 2.51 million viewers.
If NBC were producing the Crossing Lines, there’d be no way that they would make a second season. There’s just not enough ad money to pay for the production.
Thankfully for fans, NBC doesn’t produce the show. Crossing Lines was jointly commissioned by TF1 in France and by Sony for their AXN channels.
NBC merely licenses the series so it costs them much less. Based on the ratings, it’s still extremely unlikely that the peacock network will air a second season.
However, there’s hope that another season will be produced by Sony and TF1. If that happens, another US channel could pick it up or, at the very least, episodes could be released on DVD. We’ll post any updates as they become available.
But, what do you think? Would you like to see a second season of Crossing Lines or should it be cancelled instead? Why didn’t more people watch? If NBC doesn’t want season two, which channel would be a better fit?
Crossing Lines was the best show of it’s kind made in the last few years that I’ve seen. It was great to see different ethnicities all on the same side and not everyone was “beautiful” looking. The episodes flowed and the characters developed. Love to see another few seasons.
Please run a second season!! It’s as excellent show. Sick of all the reality shows and sitcoms!! You get a good series like Crossing Lines and drop it. Would love to see the first season rerun. Sure it would pick up more veiwers!
Please bring back a season 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this show and the dynamic of all the actors and characters!!!!!!
Please bring on season 2. Love the premise of the show and casting is great. These characters need time to develop more. Also the European setting is different for a lot of viewers here in the States but I found it fascinating. Definitely my favorite show of the summer. I agree with the others, get rid of the reality shows.
Love this show. Please bring it back. The actors are perfect. I detest reality shows!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, give us Season 2!!!!! There is so little worthwhile watching, taking away a program that not only entertains, but makes viewers THINK!!! MORE, MORE, MORE “CROSSING LINES” and LESS, LESS, LESS stupid reality shows!
YEAH Tom!! Right on with the reality shows they STINK!! I am so tired of everything being based on the 18-49 crowd! We older people have thinking minds not those lazy minds of people who can’t tolerate the really good shows like Crossing Lines that require you to pay attention to the dialogue and action. NBC does not deserve to have them back. Please have A&E or TNT bring it back. They will do it more justice.
Bring this show back. It is a good as some of the shows on A and E, and some of the other
cable networks. Any show with Donald Sutherland in it is worth watching.
I would like it to be renewed and I think it could be a very good show, it just needs to clean it up a little. It’s too corny at times and you can pick it apart as far as believability. Play to a smarter audience, like criminal minds for example. They treat their audience as if they are as smart as they are and they don’t have to spell everything out for them. If they do that, it will be a hit! I kept watching it to see if it got any better because it has a LOT of… Read more »
Its a wonderful show bring it back, it just needs better promotion
re-run the series with better promos target the criminal minds audiences
I think this is a good show and look forward to another season. Gave me a show to get hooked on during the summer and is way better then other summer shows out there. If Nbc doesn’t renew I hope another channel picks it up.
We will be waiting to se the seasson 2!!!!!!
PLEASE tell NBC to bring this show back !!!
Tell them to STOP the reality shows and show something good !!!
It must come back!! NBC will show more reality shows, that STINK !!!
But they think about cancelling a good show ???
Keep the show…..I just now watched the last two episodes and I looked for the next episode not realizing I had just watched the finale….I’m intrigued! I wish the entire series would be replayed in its entirety so I could watch the whole season of shows!!
Its worth keeping!!
