After becoming a staple of the CBS Thursday night schedule for four seasons, the network has moved Elementary to late on Sunday nights. Will viewers follow the crime drama to the new night? Will the ratings fall because of football game overruns? Will it be renewed for a sixth season or, will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
A contemporary update on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle characters, Elementary follows eccentric detective Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Doctor Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) as they help solve crimes in modern-day New York. Aidan Quinn and Jon Michael Hill co-star in the series.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/22 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The fourth season of Elementary averaged a 0.96 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.74 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Elementary TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for season six on CBS?
5/13 update: Elementary has been renewed for season six on CBS. Details here.
I hope the writers will get back to Holmes and Watson solving cases – and drop their propensity for adding characters and simultaneous story lines of limited interest. We had to sit through Holmes’ father, his brother, his dealer, detective Bell… all taking up time and leading nowhere. They also have soured what started out as being a very touching relationship between Holmes and Watson. Now, almost every episode has them sniping at each other, with compliments few and far between. I also think the CBS is extremely stupid to move an established program from its established time slot. Are… Read more »
Thank you, Holmes and Watson have great rapport, they are killing ratings by trying to add all these new characters, they are not needed. Just let them solve crimes.
Elementary remains a well done intelligent entry in the Sherlock Holmes universe as well as being entertaining from week to week.would prefer to not have to wait because of football over runs but will go out of my way to continue to watch.hope CBS will renew for another season-program is still fresh from week to week or episode to episode-unlike some other CBS programs that are “highest rated drama in the world”but really more stale than month old bread.
Elementary deserves better treatment by CBS. It is one of the best shows on tv. It should be moved to another night, and it should definitely be renewed.
I love this show … it’s smart and brings up very controversial elements … addiction and mental illness. Usually i can guess the “criminal ” I’ve never been correct on Sherlock … please don’t cancle ..
I love the show, the references to the book and the older movies (Basil Rathbone and such). I’ve been watching the show since it started even have all the dvds so far. The characters are well done, and the stories are amazing. I’m not joking when I say this is one of the very few shows I watch on satellite anymore (Elementary, Last Man Standing and Designated Survivor are the only shows I enjoy). I hope they keep the show going another season, if not there is only two shows to watch.
I have always loved this show. Only seen the first of Elementary Season 5 here in the UK which I enjoyed. Like others have said, the first episode is slightly wrong footed but not fatally so. Sound in UK was Dolby digital and quite clear.
I want the show to pick up its usual strengths in later episodes and having it transmitted 9pm Tuesday on Sky Living is a good mid-week slot, although most Sky customers can also download the episode on demand minus the adverts which is brilliant.
Long may this series last and bring on Season 6.
The person in charge of the soundboard should be fired. The treble frequencies seem to be muted, making the dialogue difficult to understand. I’ve only observed this problem on this one tv show.
I really wish the actors – all of whom appear to wish to be some place other than the studio, shooting the show – would be bothered to deliver their lines in a manner that is understandable. All I hear, especially from Shimwell, is “Mummblemphmrmrrmumph.”. This is compounded every time he puts his hand in front of his mouth, because you know… when you’re acting, running your hand over your mouth, while attempting to deliver a line, is the absolute most brilliant thing an actor can do. But, once you get past the unintelligible mumbling, you find out that the… Read more »
Problems with catching the 6th season: 1) I watch on Hulu, and had no idea there even was a 6th season. Thought it was cancelled. Would be nice if CBS could be arsed to let its audience on streaming media know that it’s moved to a new time AND is available now only on their proprietary service. 2) CBS’ proprietary streaming service is subscription only for full access. I pay $140 a month for my cable channels which INCLUDE CBS, however their proprietary service only works with 2 service providers right now – and looks like only podunk nobody services.… Read more »
Someone needs to put a bullet in this show.
Part of the problem is that the start time bounces all over the place due to football. Elementary has always picked up a good chunk of its audience in the +7 ratings (i.e. including the people who DVR it to watch later).
Putting this great show on late Sunday night is so stupid! CBS needs to axe some of the stupid New shows they put on in the Thursday night slot. These new shows are going to be axed anyway, so put “Elementary” back on its original night or Wednesday. We’ve been watching “Elementary” since first episode. Keep this show!
turn out the lights, the party is over..this show is on the fast train to cancelville
I love the show 🙂 thumbs up for season 6
love the show im 64 and love it give the older people a show
I cannot quite put my finger on it, but the writing, this season, seems much worse than in previous seasons. Perhaps it is the terrible sound quality that seems to be suddenly plaguing many network television shows, or perhaps it is the completely forgettable plot lines that lull the viewer to sleep, making them practically impossible follow, all the way through each episode. Whatever it is, I wish they would bring back the magic this show had in previous seasons.
The show is excellent, especially for diehard Doyle fans like myself who like the inside references to the original stories. Also loved the reference to the Sherlock Holmes hat deerstalker that the Lucy Liu Watson character shows the ts gofrican American ex con who is trying to decide whether he wants to become a detective. She wants it to him because Sherlock “never wears it”. I got past the purist in me. Only issues involve the suicide slot they put it in-are there politics in these networks that want to get rid of a show and know that by slotting… Read more »
