After becoming a staple of the CBS Thursday night schedule for four seasons, the network has moved Elementary to late on Sunday nights. Will viewers follow the crime drama to the new night? Will the ratings fall because of football game overruns? Will it be renewed for a sixth season or, will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
A contemporary update on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle characters, Elementary follows eccentric detective Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Doctor Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) as they help solve crimes in modern-day New York. Aidan Quinn and Jon Michael Hill co-star in the series.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/22 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The fourth season of Elementary averaged a 0.96 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.74 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Elementary TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for season six on CBS?
5/13 update: Elementary has been renewed for season six on CBS. Details here.
I love this show. Watch it every week. Never lets me down. I love it isn’t typical male / female describe partners where they slowly fall in love. They are friends and work well together. One of my favorite shows.
Please don’t cancel Sherlock. It always has an interesting storyline and I love their characters. There are a lot of dumb shows that they could cancel if they want to make room for some new ones.
Plz plz don’t cancel this amazing show. I really don’t watch much TV and if I do it’s usually a sporting event. There are so many bad bad shows they could choose to dump instead of this one. I’m a late comer to the party but I get to see reruns on Sunday nights. I only have reg TV with antennas and a converter box. Dumped cable 4 yrs ago and hv been just fine!!
Elementary is without a doubt the BEST show on TV.
Do NOT cancel it!!!!
I absolutely LOVE it!
You don’t get to see such a sophisticated show anymore. It has everything good you can expect from start to finish!!
Please don’t break my heart and renew it!!
Hands down one of the best shows ever! The cast holds it down when it comes to carrying the show and all the great mysteries and detective work and deductions made is nothing less than amazing. I’m seriously bummed out reading that the possible last episode is episode 18, and not even 24 like the rest of the other seasons. And that they moved it to another day makes the ratings worse and it destroys me that it could mean the end of this great show. I binged watched all the seasons up to speed and continued rewatching episodes on… Read more »
Well, of course they are going to cancel it. That is why they moved it to Sunday to cause its ratings to drop sufficiently to justify axing it. Making viewers hunt for the show for weeks on end helps to torpedo the ratings further. Thanks CBS for reminding me why I don’t watch network television any more.
This show is pure class. Always been a massive Sherlock Holmes fan and Jonny puts a fantastic spin on a classic character.
I agree pure Class intelligent, Good Plot , Actually makes you think ? Not lead you the Who done it in the first 10 minutes.Just when you think you Know a Twist. The Butler did it lol. Please keep the show ..
I didn’t see this show at all until the fifth season, and now I can’t get enough of it. I find it vastly more entertaining than most of the rest of the stupid stuff that networks pass off as TV shows. I particularly hate all the “reality” TV shows that are pure stupidity, and aren’t even actually “real” at all. Elementary is vastly superior to that crap. The actors are all excellent, and the scripts are very enticing in the way they keep my attention. I have been looking to watch all the reruns of prior seasons’ shows that I… Read more »
For me Elementary is a haven in the storm of pablum that we are being fed by the industry. It is like the marble in the show’s introduction, a gem through which we see the world in a new way. It is an ode to New York. The shift to Sunday has been an incredible drag, but I continue to hunt it down, no thanks to CBS.
All of the cast are superb in making their characters so true to life that I consider them my family. Take care CBS, take care!
One never knows when this show will air.
On one week. Off for three weeks. Shifting days. Football delays.
It’s a wonder that people who look forward to seeing this great show can find it.
CBS is certainly messing with us.
Agree with u!!!It’s CBS that makes the rate of this show keep falling!
I love this show. I TiVo it & I’ve missed it due to football runovers many times. Quite a Shame. Last nights episode 1 of 2, was incredible. I hope this sticks around! I’ve done all I can, to TiVo it & not miss an episode since the get-go!
I very much enjoy the show. I will continue to watch it Sundays at 7 pm. Please renew.
Elementary has had its ups and downs, for sure. Season one did not impress me, as the writers had a habit of telling us who did it, before Sherlock & co. had a chance to work it out. Nothing quite like watching a detective work to arrive at the answer that the audience has already been given, for an hour. But, with season two, Elementary became more of a “whodunit” type show, which made it more interesting. That is, until this latest season. This past season has featured writing that is dryer than my aunt’s Thanksgiving turkey. The dialogue is… Read more »
Its a great show, with originality in plot and great acting. RENEW please
I’m probably in the minority here but this show has become a talk show rather than an action show and a parody of itself.
