It used to be a big deal when a movie star starred in a TV show. Now, they get cancelled just as quickly as any other series. How will Halle Berry and Extant do on CBS? Will it be renewed for season two or will it be cancelled after one short season? Stay tuned.
On Extant, astronaut Molly Woods (Berry) returns to Earth after a year-long solo mission in outer space. Her reunion with her family is thrown into turmoil when it’s learned that she’s pregnant. Others in the cast include Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Hiroyuki Sanada, Camryn Manheim, Grace Gummer, and Michael O’Neill.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
10/9 update: Extant has been renewed for a second season CBS.
Final season averages: 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.15 million total viewers.

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Extant TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a second season?
I loved it. I thought Halle’s character was about right for a scientist selected to spend time in space alone … and her husband too is a scientist. Are some viewers lamenting the fact that these two scientists weren’t more passionate or bubbly? (Sigh.)
Perhaps it could have been — could be, in future seasons — written a bit more tightly, but then the characters were slowly developing around a complex story line, and the “spaces” left lots of delicious room for viewer conjecture.
I hope it’s renewed. I’ll watch it.
I LOVE EXTANT! Please grant them a 2nd season. I was prepared for my weekly watch. Somehow I missed the cancelled announcement.
I love the show
I love the show, very easy to watch, The family type show
I enjoyed it. Very suspenseful. I hope it is on again for a new season.
I started this series literally last Sunday night via amazon prime. It was fascinating from the get go and I’ve managed to watch all 13 episodes and finished today. I thought it was nicely developing with each episode hooking me into the next. I just love Ethan and watching him has been riveting…when he made his decision in the last episode I was in tears only to be amazed by his statement. There is so much left unanswered…yo kimonos quest for immortality, the offsprings journey, Ethan’s new role, Odin and his battle, the impending battle w the spores. Seriously! Do… Read more »
I was very disappointed in this series. The main reason I watched was because of Pierce Gagnon (Ethan), the child actor who was amazing and stole every scene he was in. Now that they killed him off in the finale, I’m done. His twitter account also seems to allude to the fact that it’s over for him on the series. I also enjoyed Camryn Manheim, another great actress. Surprisingly, I don’t think Halle Berry was particularly good in this series. She lacked much needed emotion and her acting seemed stilted and forced. In addition, I just didn’t feel any chemistry… Read more »
way to blow it to those waiting to see if it it was gonna make it.
Nothing official, just conjecture.
I really hope there is a Season Two!!!! Please!! When will they announce?
Great story. Poor story telling. It was so slow in the first several episodes. Then in the last two it barreled along it was so hard to see what was really happening. The story line can only be IMO called “jerki”. Unless the story telling improves this show should be canx.
I find it amazing how people can watch the same thing and take from it the exact opposite thoughts, and feelings about it. Where someone sees a slow start they find boring, I found an intriguing steady paced story filled with lots of fascinating possibilities.
Please renew this show!
The season finale hooked me. The line that ethan said in response to where are you Im here im every where hooked me. The places they can take the show now is just wide open. They can have him controlling any robotic android body that they want. He is loose on the internet with out any limits to his ability to develop. The alien spore creatures we know were not destroyed. The off spring is loose and confused and does not know what side to take in the battle to come. He has a human side that cares for his… Read more »
This is a great show with a lot of potential to keep giving us one great episode after another! Please someone start an online petition to renew this show! I’ll sign it and I know a lot of like minded individuals who would also sign it to keep this show going.
Slow to develop, but very well acted. Definitely worth a Second Season to resch a conclusion to all,the Plot threads.
Run its course, promising, though coopted storylines from matrix, AI, war of the worlds, etc. Began dragging and underwhelming about episode 6 and just a plodding, nauseating pursuit of her “baby”. Now Ethan is a sentient everywhere AI. Let it go.
Please renew, i.e. all of the previous comments!! This show was deep, interesting, mind-blowing, touching, tech-smart, beautiful . . . and, unfinished!!!
From my perspective as a biologist I was riveted to every episode because we were watching our future — well acted, plausible, engaging, intriguingly philosophical and, for better or worse, predictive of human-technology interfacing. Aliens? Maybe. Machines mimicking humans? Definitely. I truly hope we can follow up in season 2 to Ethan’s “I’m everywhere.” Bring Extant back!
