In case you haven’t heard, TNT has cancelled HawthoRNe after three seasons on the air. The medical drama ran for 30 episodes total, from June 2009 until August 2011. HawthoRNe’s ratings started out strong but dipped each season. It was the lowest-rated drama on TNT this summer except for Men of a Certain Age, a drama that was cancelled after two seasons on the air.
Series star Jada Pinkett Smith broke the news to her fans by writing, “Hey everyone…if you don’t know Hawthorne will not be returning for another season. I want to say thank you to all the fans for being Hawthorne soldiers. All our facebook fans…twitter soldiers and viewers…you held us down. Of course you know there is more to come…believe it!”
Following a steamy scene between Smith and costar Marc Anthony, there were rumors that the two were having an affair. Supposedly, she and her husband, Will Smith, were also splitting up. The Smiths issued a statement last week that addressed the rumors, “Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false. We are still together, and our marriage is intact.”
Vanessa Lengies (CNO Kelly Epson) sympathized with HawthoRNe fans who were sad about the show’s demise and tweeted, “Loyal HawthoRNe followers, u know if it was up 2 me I would play Kelly 4 you til you asked me 2 stop.” She also posted a few backstage photos of herself and the cast.
Aisha Hinds (Isabel Walsh) was upset by the cancellation news and wrote, “:-( Boooo!!! Love my HawthoRNe Family!”
What do you think? Are sorry to see the TV series end? Could HawthoRNe have been saved?

I am very sad that the show has been cancelled. It deserves a chance to grow and get better and stronger. I hope another network picks it up.
I agree with the writer of Sept. 2nd which states that we as the audience would play into such a trash state of being after hoping the entire seasons that Tom and HawthoRNne would get together as a couple and work together in the hospital since this was a show about the Hospital and it’s characters. We need some shows to be wholesome, I am glad my children didn’t ever want to view this show and I wish I didn’t look at the last season. It lower my opinion of th show, with the exeception of the part the daughter… Read more »
I cannot believe they are cancelling Hawthorne! Me and the ladies at work talk about this show every episode. Speaking of which, we were disappointed that there were only 6 epsiodes. Now that the show has been cancelled it leaves us wondering as to who shot Nick. I agree that the writing of the show’s direction was all over the place. Christina’s marriage to Tom only lasted a minute. I think the show is being cancelled not because of poor ratings but because of all the speculation surrounding Marc and Jada. if that is the case, I wouldn’t let other… Read more »
WHY, WHY, WHY? EVERY SHOW I GET ATTACHED TO GETS THE AX. TNT WAS MY MONDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT WATCH. BUT I THINK I WILL FIND A NEW HOBBY. I AM SICK OF THE POLITICS OF TELEVISION. DALLAS WAS DONE AND WONT BE WATCHING TNT…
This has truly broken my heart.
Not at all surprised… The last season was absolutely horrible. The show did a complete 360 story wise and went downhill at a rapid pace! If it had kept on the same pace as the first season, no doubt it would be one of the BEST shows on tv right now.
I am very saddened and disappointed that Hawthorne was cancelled for season 4. I also feel the first two seasons storyline of Hawthorne had great potential with an African American women in a positive light. I loved Jada Pinkett Smiths outstanding portrayal of her. I anticipated the start of the third season, which I thought would never begin and could not understand why there were only 6 episodes aired. The writing really was all over the place in the third season and the whole relationship triangle and adultery for newlyweds was a bit much. It’s just too bad the writers… Read more »
IT WAS A GREAT SHOW BUT THE WRITING DIRECTION WENT DOWN THE WRONG WAY. THE FACT THE A NURSE THAT WAS KNOWLEGEABLE HAD A MAN TO LOVE HER LIKE TOM DID AND THEN MESSED UP WITH THE PERSON THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PARTLY OR TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR HER GETTING BEAT UP AND LOSS HER BABY ON HER WEDDING NIGHT. IT WAS A GREAT SHOW…..SEE IF BET COULD PICK YOU UP. JUST THINK ABOUT THE DIRECTION OF THE STORYLINE
I agree with each of you. I loved the show but the last season was not a proud one. It had to end because the only way to recover would be to pull a “Dallas” and make it all a dream.
I am so sad that Hawthorne has been cancelled. I like the show very much. Story line this past season definitely changed maybe not for the better!
This is horrible the one show that I look forward to and that should be on every week is leaving. The fact that it comes on for 6 episodes and then goes back off never made since. I am very upset
I am not sad to see Hawthorne go. I watched all seasons but had already decided not to watch another season. The writing was all over the place this season and i hated the whole relationship triangle and adultery.
They should have cut Marc Anthony at the end of Season 2. Season 3 was too much ‘all about him’ and was way too weak in other storylines that could have been developed. I loved the first 2 seasons and the 3rd one made me uncomfortable to watch. Too bad.
What a disappointment! The cancellation of Hawthorne. Finally a network willing to show an African American women in a positive light and you blew it. I thought your network had some character but your just like the big 3….weak!
I’m only sad because this show in my opinion was sabotaged. Season three did a total 360 with a trashy, soapera-ish (of the worst kind) story line that made NO SENSE! The fans were supposed to accept a couple that we’ve been rooting for since season one to finally get married, be pregnant, lose the baby and then Christina gets involved in a smutty affair? Tom was made to look like a long suffering punk of a husband that Christina boo-booed on every chance she got. She didn’t deserve Tom. Then she sees a therapist but still doesn’t grieve the… Read more »
