TVGuide is reporting that NBC has unceremoniously cancelled Las Vegas after five seasons on the air.
Las Vegas debuted on September 22, 2003 and was touted as actor James Caan’s first series regular role on television. The Academy Award-nominated actor was cast as the Montecito casino’s Head of Security, ‘Big Ed’ Deline. Others in the cast have included Nikki Cox, Josh Duhamel, James Lesure, Vanessa Marcil, Molly Sims, and Marsha Thomason.
Caan left the series last year to return to his movie career and Cox was cut from the show in a cost-cutting move. Caan was replaced by Tom Selleck and it was hoped that the addition of the veteran TV actor would help revitalize the series. It didn’t and, coupled with the series’ move to Friday nights, the ratings dropped significantly.
Last year, Las Vegas was one of the earliest NBC shows to get a renewal notice. What a difference a year can make.
NBC has opted not to renew Las Vegas for season six. Unlike Friday Night Lights, Vegas apparently doesn’t warrant shopping to other possible outlets and fans of the series are left with a cliffhanger. The last two episodes aired last Friday and was first in the ratings for both hours, Unbeknownst to viewers at the time, it was likely the last time we’ll see the staff of the Montecito. Stay tuned!
I still miss this show. I do wish they would re-start it. It was one of the best on TV.
Okay – what the hell, I am revisiting the Las Vegas series via DVD seasons 1,2,3,4. My 16 year old loves them. He and I are watching the series together and not sure how I am going to explain to him how this ends..NOT..come on we need an ending..Best TV series..
I think this is the most irresponsible action of any TV producer ever to leave fans hanging lime thos you need a grand finale I am sure Edcan come back get out of the murder charges get them blamed on Mary and have evrything happily ever after with a new baby and marraige
My wife and I got HOOKED on Las Vegas…actually own ALL 5 seasons on DVD. We were watching the last episode only to get SO ANGRY!!!! YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO PEOPLE. I know our shop at work watches the show everyday and all of these wonderful people obviously want to see the return of Vegas…and we are just the ones who took time to write! I do like the idea of a movie however…give us closure to Mary, Ed, and as my wife would like to know…”WHAT THE HELL HAPPENS TO THE BABY!” WE WANT VEGAS! WE WANT VEGAS!… Read more »
still watch reruns over and over
did the grand finale ever air on tv. if there was a finale is there any way to obtain it or watch it
I’m in love with the show! And I’m very sad that it ends that way 🙁 I think you showed bring the show back even if it’s been 3yrs since the last season. What happens with the baby? And the weddings? Well I figured that Cooper never left on the plane but really u need to bring it back. Well as long as u can get the crew back together. At I think if u brought it back, it would do huge!!! All the fans would come back!!
I watched several edisodes (the ones with Tom Selleck) I though “This is not a bad show” so I started watching some of the first season and it kinda got old. It’s a modern day “Love Boat”. Also, the thing like the two guys playing and winning in the 2 on 2 basketball…not realistic. I do think it was probably time for the show to go. Too bad they had such an elaborate cliff hanger. Also no building in a world has a security system that advanced. You would have to have moving cameras all over the floor. Also in… Read more »
Ditto, Ditto, DITTO!!! Completely invested and then just left hanging!! What a great show – real TV, not reality TV – just too bad. We really loved it! They really should at least get it together and do a 2 hour TV movie for us – it’s not like the cast isn’t still around – PLEASE, PLEASE,PLEASE!!!
Selleck is on a new show so he would not be available. I haven’t heard about the rest of the cast. I’m sure most of them would be glad for the paycheck.
This is by far one of the best shows/series that my wife and I ever watched. The characters and story lines were excellent and if you never had the urge to jump on a plane headed for Vegas after watching a few episodes then you were never alive.
I just got done watching seasons 1 to 3 and ran to Hastings to buy the last 2 seasons. I can not believe that we will not have a closure to the cliff hanger with the wedding and baby!!! That is SO WRONG!!!! Please do something to give us all a closure to this great show!!!!
Bring back las Vegas NBC or sell the rights to someone else, or a las Vegas movie would be great.
I am glad that I am not the only one who has fallen under the LAS VEGAS spell!
I watch it everyday and am now concerned we won’t have ‘closure’.
I want to know that Danny & Delinda and Mike & Piper and Sam and Cooper are okay. Can’t help it! I want my happy ending tied up with a bow!
ive been religiously watching the series on TNT, EVERY day and was so excited to watch the next episode after tom selleck’s “plane crash” that i went to record the next episode on the t-vo. Lo and behold i saw that they were starting again from the pilot episode! immediately jumped on my computer and saw that the series had been cancelled 🙁 its like i made a huge investment that didnt pan out.
The exact same thing happen to me!! Couldn’t but think what kind of people do that??
its a very good show i saw it at tnt and its good make a new season
I’ve been watching the shows during the day on TNT…..I hated that character Sam. In real life she would not have many friends
I liked the character of Piper…very beautiful girl however I wasn’t sure if she was a hostess or a hooker. In the later episodes they sorta moved away from the hooker references.
This was the wrong role for Tom Selleck though.
