It looks like the story of the Sutton clan has come to an end. ABC Family has quietly decided to cancel Lincoln Heights after four seasons.
Lincoln Heights tells the story of Officer Eddie Sutton (Russell Hornsby) who moves his family back to his old neighborhood. Other castmembers include Erica Hubbard, Nikki Micheaux, Rhyon Brown, Mishon Ratliff, Robert Adamson, and Michael Reilly Burke.
The TV show debuted on January 8, 2007 and the first season was successful enough to warrant a renewal by March. At that point, it was one of the cable channel’s higher performers in the key demographics.
While announcing that the second season would kick off in September 2007, ABC Family President Paul Lee said, “We really think we have something unique here… The fact that it’s an African American family drama alone separates it from the crowd, but its terrific cast and superb writing also make it truly special and perfect for ABC Family.”

Following season two, it took several months for ABC Family to decide to bring Lincoln Heights back for a third round. They finally did and that kicked off in September 2008. The audience grew and the show became the cable channel’s top performer among Females 12-34 and Female teens. It didn’t take as long to renew the series for year four.
Season four kicked off in September 2009. It ended up being one of the channel’s weaker programs of 2009, being outperformed by other ABC Family shows, including cancelled Kyle XY.
No specific reason was given for the Lincoln Heights cancellation. However, though it’s been favored by some critics, the series has never been a big hit for the cable channel and has only been given 10 episode renewals each season.
What do you think? Are you upset or surprised that the series has been cancelled? Do you think the last episode of Lincoln Heights is a worthwhile series finale?

My husband and I just recently found the show on TV1 network and we tape it so as not to miss an episode. We did the same thing with the show “KINGS” which was loosely based on a modern day biblical David. Good wholesome shows seem to never get the promotion they deserve to get the audience interested and for those of us who seek out and finally find something “worthy & decent” for family entertainment, then those get cancelled.
BOO TO HOLLYWEIRD.
This is not fair! This is the only show that my whole family can sit down and watch together! We love it, please don’t cancel it!
I love Lincoln Heights… Please bring it back…. !!!
I have created a petition to try and save Lincoln Heights. Please sign it. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/save-lincoln-heights
I love Lincoln Heights and would like to see it continue
We really love Lincoln heights. We watch it regularly, and are thankful such a positive portrayal of african americans were viewed by many. I pray that they will be ambushed by positiveness that they’ll rethink discontinuing the show.
This may sound silly, but the Sutton family in some way had become part of our family. We looked forward to watching the show, and were always satisfied by the way things were worked out. We can relate to the show and feel sad that we are losing such a positive show that african american children can “so” relate to, and their parents. My homeschooled son and I watch and discuss the way things were handled, and almost all the time agree with the Sutton’s way of dealing with things. The writer is awsome, and so are the actors, and… Read more »
I Love the show look at every night strong show for every body !!!!
I am very disappointed that Lincoln Heights will not continue with a 5th season. I had no idea Lincoln Heights was back on the advertising aired on TV One that it would be showing the rerun episodes. I also did not know it was back on for a 4th season until the stars appeared on BET’s Mo’Nique show. I blame ABC family for giving the show poor advertising. TV One has given the show powerful advertising so I knew it was coming on right away. I hope TV One picks up the show for a 5th season and keeps those… Read more »
I am very disappointed that Lincoln Heights was canceled. I truly enjoyed watching a television series whose primary cast members were black and most importantly “positive” role models. I, along with many others, think some of the problems with the ratings was due to the lack of promotion. I was not even aware the show existed until TV One started to air re-runs of the show, and I must tell you I AM HOOKED!! The cast was excellent!!! The stories are fresh and realistic. Rhyon Brown is amazing!!!! Now that more people are hooked on the show, please consider bringing… Read more »
Why? That is the only show that kept me going.
I truly enjoy watching a modern day “cosby” type of family with a slight edge. Good story lines and I would love to see the show grow more and continue!!!
I am disapprove of this. My family and I love this show. There are not many positive, black shows on television and everytime I find one that we can watch as a family, it is taken away from us. That is so not cool!!!
I am very upset the show has been canceled I watched this show every week from day 1 my mom use to work at night so she didnt get a chance to see it so I recorded it then once she went to firkst shift she started watching it and she loved it then I started working at night so she recorded it for me when before I could even get home she was telling me girl let me tell you what happened on Lincoln Heights so we will miss the show I even got my brothers to watch it… Read more »
I am so disappointed the show is cancelled. I enjoyed watching a hard working man maintaing his household with a supportive wife; contrary to what alot of people believe there are real families out here like this. My 13 year old daughter turned me on to the show and I have been loving it. I take a nap and get up at 11:00 just to watch it. Let’s continue to encourage folks to vote to save LINCOLN HEIGHTS.
