We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

Have you gone nuts. The best show out for eons and you pull it. Did you get too many complaints that there were no black people in it. Oh what a darn shame. When will you ever learn, When will you, EVER learn. We pay for you TOO!!
I only got to see it once – but it certainly looked interesting. The main character was a handsome bad guy, but would have been reformed. There are so many really silly or really violent shows on tv it is hard to find something to watch! I don’t like the reality shows! Bring Lone Star back!
I am so pissed off that FOX pulled “Lone Star”. You idiots at fox get a good thing going and pull it before it has a chance. Could it be that the series does not have inter-racial content? What a shame. Politically correct hammers itself home again.
There were many other shows deserving of the cancellation axe. Some of FOX’s good shows are starting to become tired in my opinion, such as House, and I have always been a House fan. I can’t believe that Lie to Me is still airing and Lone Star was canceled. FOX should be ashamed!!! Whose running FOX anyway? Maybe they need some new blood.
Really liked Lone Star and VERY disappointed it was cancelled. Maybe bad placement on Monday along with “DWTS” and the new highly promoted “Event.” Many other open slots available. Why not move it first before a full blown cancel? With all the medical and crime shows, Lone Star was a nice needed addition and breath of fresh air.
We loved Lonestar!! Completely flabbergasted that it is canceled! It should definitely be back on!
What a waste of such talented actors on a terrific series that definately
aired on the wrong night. For a new show to compete against Dancing
with the Stars and other returning hits, what was Fox thinking. I for
one am truly disappointed with Fox’s decision to cancel so soon. Truly
think that Lone Star could have been up there with the best on TV.
Am disappointed I took the time to watch each week only to have it pulled out from under me! Give it a chance Fox! I watch everything on Hulu because I deal with getting children fed and to bed in the evening. At least let us see the remaining episodes. I’m so sick of reality TV and really enjoyed a decently written show!
So disappointed! I guess I was living in a hole because I had no idea this show was on the ropes. Good lord, I’m so sorry to see yet one more smart show cancelled. I agree with Jan BAD DECISION, FOX!!!!
Please bring back Lone Star or let some other network have it. I, and my adult daughters, who live elsewhere liked it very much. We watched both episodes and intended to keep on watching it. I am tired of the same kind of crime show on TV. This show was different.
This show was sooo good. Ilove it! It probably got such low ratings because it was smart and people weren’t able to follow it. I am mad that it got cancelled
I liked this show too. I didn’t like the main character but I don’t think you’re supposed to like him… he’s a con man after all! But it was also easy to put oneself into his shoes and identify with his struggles. However, I don’t think the show was ‘smart’. I think shows like CSI and NCIS require more intelligence in order to follow than this show did.
In any event, like another poster, I’m wondering if hulu.com viewers are counted when ratings are considered. Anyone know?
It was a great show. It’s a total shame to see it go. It seems America is just retarded and rather watch something dumbed down to the level of preschoolers. Much like they had to do with “The Office”. Pretty sure I may have to move England at some point at least they’re TV is continually getting stupid.
Can’t believe that this show has been canceled I watched both episodes and was disappointed when it did not come back on last night.
What a SHAME! I loved the show and it had a great cast. I guess boring reality shows are all that people like any more. Guess I’ll cancel my cable and start reading again. BAD DECISION, FOX!!!!!!
Really irritated this show has been canceled. I watch everything on hulu.com and hope those viewers are counted in ratings. Loved the cast – it would be nice if FOX would release the final episodes, as it appears many of us invested our time in getting into the show. Knowing there are completed-unreleased episodes is not pleasing – at least release them online for us to view.
Maybe TX really should be its own country; then we can have shows specifically catered to our liking.
