We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

We really enjoyed this show. We watch “Lie to me,” miss “24,” and think Fox should try a different night than Monday. Any other night would be fine.
This was one of my favorite new shows! Too bad only garbage shows seem to make it on TV anymore. Great cast and story line!
Fox got me hooked after the first episode and I enjoyed the second, excited to watch the third! I couldn’t find the show the following week and was totally surprised to find out (on the internet) that the show was cancelled after only showing two episodes. I think that Fox should suck it up and at least show the remaining episodes. From a viewers perspective it’s un-fair to advertise a new show and then drop it before it has a chance to gain an audience! I thought that the acting, plot and execution was excellent…
I really liked this show… one of the best new – non cop based – dramas. It’s a shame they gave up so quickly, I feel the show had a lot of promise.
I’m hoping that one of the cable networks picks up the show, if that’s even possible! At least they should put up the finished episodes on their website.
This was my favorite show and I am blown away that they cancelled it. It was really well written and with good actors to. Go figure???
I loved this show. I thought it was very clever, tastefully directed, with a superb cast, and a great, interesting plot. I so looked forward to the next one. If anything, maybe it was just on the wrong night, wrong time slot for Monday night is full of new series on all the major networks. You can’t watch m ore than one at a time, and that was the week it aired that the other major networks had new series. Bringit back, but offer it on a different night, at a different time. This is great, especially since all those… Read more »
I agree with the above comments. My wife and I really liked the show. Oh well, another
reason to watch another network.
WOW Fox, really??? I know the economy isn’t doing so great but c’mon! I thought the concept was very intriguing and was looking forward to future episodes! EPIC FAIL!!!
i thought the show was very different and intresting. i was looking forward to more episodes.
I agree – it was one of the best new shows this season, and it was replaced with “Lie to Me”?????? Never could get interested in that one, but I really liked Lone Star. I record everything, so I didn’t watch it the dates it showed, but when my recorder couldn’t find Episodes 3 & 4 I knew something had happened.
If you’re smart, Fox, you’ll give it another airing. So different and unpredictable it was refreshing. The acting was also very good.
I really liked this show. It was different then all the law, CSI type, cop shows, and so-called reality shows on the air now. What a shme that Fox didn’t give it a chance. It had a great cast and really was a breath of fresh air! Fox think about bringing it back next summer maybe???
Unbelievable — this is the third or fourth show I’ve gotten hooked on that was canceled (the last one being “Flash Forward” which I really enjoyed). I recorded the first 2 episodes on my DVR and kept looking for future shows, so I’m not surprised to see that it was canceled — just very disappointed. I thought it was great!
I loved the show, thought it was very well done. Please bring the ahow back, and give it a chance.. People might have been busy the night it was on sheesh
I can’t believe this show was canceled!!! It was the best new show out! My husband and I watched it for the first time and then it was over. We were hooked in 5 minutes and were excited to have a great new show to watch and then we’re shocked when it was canceled! WE ARE REALLY DISAPOINTED!!!!
It was a great show, sorry Fox cancelled it. I think most of the dramas on TV these days are boring and predictable. I was intrigued by the plot line and had set it to record and sadly it will be no more…
